Any ideas? Serious?

Smell of clutch I think but I am about as expert on mechanics as I am at flying a plane. (Which isn't very expert at all).

Googled the symptoms and it seems it could be anything.

Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Most likely your cam cover gasket has a slight leak and it's dripping oil into the exhaust manifold. This will give you puffs of smoke and an acrid burning smell that could be confused with clutch if you're not particularly familiar with the respective smells.

Is that bad? Can I limp the car to a garage?

As I said I'm totally ignorant about such things.

If you need the fire brigade.... It's serious

But I guess after 30 mins it's not a backfire in your Airbox.

Or an over-fill with oil like GrahamV

That's why I wasn't happy until I had a hinged bonnet.

Is it happening all the time or just under certain conditions?

It's not a constant stream of smoke (like there's a fire going on under there). I would liken the smoke to steam bellowing out when I come to a stop (but not every time I stop) but it definitely has a metallic smell to it so it won't be steam right?

For peace of mind take off the main bonnet, you don't need to be an x-spurt to see where it comes from. no doubt there will be evidence. who knows you could save a huge bill if you find it now.

I've had this on mine a few times due to cam cover issues.

Is yours a Raceproved cam cover? They have been known to have issues which cause this.

Essentially, the cover gets over tightened, warps or the gasket doesn't seal properly.
Usually when fitted back on incorrectly.

Oil gets onto the exhaust manifold and smoke.

Not too serious, except you need a new cover.

I'd do this and drive around a bit. Then you can hopefully see where it's coming from.
