Novice owner, engine rebuild needed - Any recommendations?
Discussion
Hi,
In a nutshell, my husband wanted the Tuscan for ages, then due to small inheritance he got it....and I then fell head over heels in love with it! I have been using info from you guys on this forum for a few weeks now to help us out, so first of all big thanks for all your posts, as we have learned a massive amount from you all.
We got our 2000 tuscan at a low price, but having had it checked out it does need an engine rebuild (looking back we were pretty naive when buying). Powers performance has been recommended to us, has anyone else got any recent experience of them, or can recommend anyone else for a Tuscan speed six engine rebuild? And how long a rebuild take approx, as we are trying to decide whether to have it done now, or wait until after the good 'top-off' weather has finished to have it done.

Give Jason or Chas a call at str8six.
Both are very knowledgeable and always have the time to talk TVR.
From my personal experience nothing is to much trouble and their service is second to none.
I'll second that. Jason knows his stuff and builds a very fine engine indeed. Both are very knowledgeable and always have the time to talk TVR.

OK, Both Jason at Str8Six and Dom at TVRpower are probably recognised as the TVR engine experts and have the knowledge and facilities to rebuild a straight 6 engine to the latest spec's with proven components.
I'd advise telephoning both and seeing what they can do and what your options are. Both will offer a rebuild to a standard spec' i.e. a 3.6 or 4 litre engine....But you might(will??) be tempted by a 4.3 or 4.5 litre 'upgrade'.
They both might offer a menu of options to a 'standard' rebuild.
I'd also discuss the possibility of renewing the clutch - as the engine will be out of the car anyway.
Time-wise, TVRPower may well have rebuilt engines "on the shelf", Jason probably will not have this level of availability. From car drop off, I guess you'd be looking at 3 weeks to collection, maybe less at TVRPower?
