Favour needed from Mk 2 owner - boot lid
Discussion
My MK 1 boot hinges have play in them so I ordered a new pair from TVR Parts. They recommended later upgraded items so I bought a pair of those. When Elmwood tried to fit them on its service this week, the strut interfered due to revised articulation angles. They queried it with TVRP who advised a shorter strut needs to be fitted but they don't supply them. Hence I'm looking for a helpful Mk2 owner to do some measuring for me.
Can you also confirm the part number and whether your boot lid has a spoiler, not sure if the Mk2 came with none or the small one as standard with the big one being one the S ? I also understand the Mk 2 has two struts and the later hinges have ball pickups on both sides. I may upgrade mine to balance the forces as its going in for a respray in March and I can get the extra bobbin installed on the LH side of the lid then. Not sure what N rating I would need then as I don't have a spoiler. May have a chat with SGS to work it out, don't know if half the current single rating is the right logic.

Hi Speed3,
Only just got home.
I'll get some photo's posted later today or tomorrow. Just waiting for the rain to stop.
Cheers,
tony.
That would be great Tony, having Nick confirmed the Mk 2 Targa is the same as the Mk1. Length/spec of the struts on yours is now the important info. Only just got home.

Thanks Tony but have just solved the problem with Racetech's help, two struts on their way. Only just realised today that the strut now lives within the hinge rather than having the top secured directly to the lid. That means I don't need to have a new bobbin installed as I'd expected. When Elmwood explained the problem I didn't twig what had changed, penny only dropped when I got the hinges out today. Looks like it should be a much neater solution and put no loading on the fibreglass.
Well finally got around to fitting the new hinges today and we have a problem. It would appear the struts Racetech supplied are too long. They cause the lid to foul the bodywork at full extension and to sit proud when down:
Tony, if you're in the country it would be appreciated if you could get your measuring stick out ! These ones are about 190mm between centres and over 200mm total length and they're supposed to be the shorter of the two options Racetech have.

They don't foul the fuel cap. Without the struts on the the boot closes fine but opening they need a "push" from a strut to clear the rear corners as it kind of rises in two stages with this particular articulation. They were recommended by TVR Parts when I tried to order the original type so they think they will work on a Mk1
