TOYO Tyres on a Tuscan
Discussion
Ive just has some new Toyo's on the back (I DID HAVE MICHELIN) and now the arse end feel vacant and soft... it can even build a side to side momentum up... has anyone esle had this problem?? First of all i thought one tyre might have the wrong pressure in but the are both at 28.
ANY IDEA's????????

Sam - give it 500 or so miles. Mine did the same (Toyo TR's on back) and it was quite unnerving initially. One thing though - 28 psi would generally seem to be on the high side for tyre pressure, as I think you will generally find most people on here go with 24 all around. I have certainly used that for the last 3 yrs of ownership without issue.
I had this same problem and personally i dont like the tyres. Mine have now done 1500 miles and still move around, i have tried 22, 24 and now running 28 psi. I have had geometery done and replaced the standard shocks with GAZ golds etc..
I had SO2's prior to this, god i miss them !
Just out of curiosity, take your car for a run, do some cornering and pull over. Slide you hand across the flat of the tyre and see if all the heat is in the one side of the tyre ?
You may have too much negative camber as i did ??

done all i can ... 500 miles later still the same... changed pressures still the same, geo is spot on...
Im changing them for a harder side wall tyre before i have to send the car to a breakers yard as a write off....its deadly and i hate it...give me my old tyres back please.....
I will let you know next week the full out come and what make i have back on it but it wont be Toyo.

Am also interested in the outcome of this as I am now at 750 miles and still does not feel quite right. I have used Toyos for ages, but this time, changed to the T1-R's as the 'S' are no longer available. Not sure if it is the tyre, or the outcome of the fitting of it which took the tyre location > 2.5 hrs to align properly. Seems far too long to me, so I am now booked into Racing Green for a geometry check which is still a lot cheaper than replacing the 2 rears.
This is a bummer for me! becasue I just had new wheels all round, new t1r's all round and full geometry, and I hate it too!! i've done 300 miles on the tyres and have 0 confidence now, I used to love the handling but now dont like it, I even popped it back to Racing Green to have a look underneath as it just gave no feel, they said the same give it 500 or so miles and check the pressures, i'm gonna give it until 1000 miles but if it doesn't improve the tyres are coming off for sure! those who have changed could you tell us what to and how it helped?

I have just had Allan Meaker on the phone from Toyo Technical and he assures me its because of different manufactures tyres front to back (I have bridgestones front and Toyo's rear). If i fit Toyo's all round it will be corrected.
His recommended tyre pressures are front 225/35/18 - 24 psi and rear 245/40/18 28 psi.
He also commented that the Bridgstone did have a stiffer tyre wall and a change in "turn in" would probably result in swapping the fronts over to Toyo's.

I recently had toyo proxys fitted to my mk1 Tuscan S at the same time as having nitrons installed and set up by the lads at Top Cats.
I have 225s on the front and 245s on rear which i run at 24psi.The car is awsome.
recently did a track day at snetterton, the car was so planted, felt like i was really taking the piss with it.
I also have noticed a tremendous improvement on the road aswell.

Interesting; I have Toyo T1-S's on the front (albeit older tyres) and the new T1-R's on the rear and it simply does not feel the same even when on the same manufacturers tyres. I run 24 psi all around, 245 size all 4 tyres. IMHO this is b
ks. I have Toyo proxes all around. Had the rears replaced at MOT for the newer Proxes. They are horrendous and not that much better after 1500 miles. The car has older Proxes on the front so how does Allan Meaker want to "spin" that? Sorry, but I think you all understand my frustration.

I have the old "S" on the front and just before Classic le Mans, had 2 new "R" Toyos fitted on the back.
Scared the hell out of me at first although fine on the very wet roads down to Le Mans. After 1500 miles of France, they feel very slightly better but I still am very apprehensive about cornering quickly or taking curves at decent speeds.
As some-one else said, the back end feels "floaty" and sometimes the rear tyres feel as though they are about to roll off the rims on hard cornering.
Judging by the number of adverse comments here, it is obvious that the tyre construction is just not right. I have tried varying pressures fron 24 up to 29 and frankly, notice very little difference.
At first, was wondering if it was just me but now I realise I am not alone.
Where do we go from here as I am £300 lighter in the pocket and not enjoying the Tuscan anywhere near as much as I used to?
