It seems as if my drivers side door control unit (ME0480) has given up the ghost. I've swapped it with the passenger one and the fault transfers so it looks like it's the unit. I can also feel a very hot component shortly after I plug the unit in so I think it's definitely SNAFU.

I see Bell Hill (via Ebay) and Racing Green have them. Anyone else know of any places to get them? Or more importantly a cheap(er) place to get them? Or anyone got a spare they want to sell?

Those are the only places I've seen them.

What symptoms are you suffering with ?

My passenger door is playing up, the window lowers but the door solenoid never fires. I don’t know if this is the solenoid on the door release or the ECU?

Where is the ECU found, I have read topics saying on the gearbox tunnel? Is that in the car, but under the centre console?

I have found a ford part No. for the door solenoid; I just need to check if power is getting to it.

The centre console (where the handbrake and gearstick are) is held in place with 3 screws, 2 at the front and one at the rear. The front ones are clearly visible near the dashboard, just forward of where your knee would be. The rear one is underneath the air vent (it just pulls out). There are then two door control units in the mass of wires that will be evident once the console is lifted up and out of the way. There is a multiplug that you can disconnect and then remove the console from out of the car (for room). One unit does the passenger door (not neccessarily the unit nearest the door!) and the other does the drivers door. Unplug them, swap them round and see if the symptoms swap sides. If so, it's the unit, if not, it's something else!
Clear as mud???

OK - Found the ECU, swapped the O/S and N/S, tried it and the N/S one has failed !

Pulled it apart and resoldered the joints in hope that it will work when i plug it back in at the weekend.

If this fails to work, where is the cheapest place that I can obtain a another one ?

David, do you mean you've now blown the other one or that the fault transferred side? I do hope you haven't now got two knackered items!! Where to get them from??? I got mine from Bell Hill via eBay, although I'm sure they will take orders direct - it was just easier for me as I had PayPal credit I could use. Cost delivered was £44.63, a lot cheaper than another company that might have already been mentioned on this thread. Do an eBay search for ME0480 and include shops - it should come up straight away - they are still showing two available.

Mine is now fitted and fixed, although my drivers door (not the Bell Hill unit) window now doesn't go up when I close the door, ah well, TVR's - TADTS!!

Sorry for confusion, I meant to say the fitting the O/S unit fixed the fault on the N/S and the faulty unit from the N/S has now been resoldered.

I will try this again at the weekend, if it works great, if not i'll hop onto ebay !

Thanks for your help
