stupid insurance company

hit a fox (and after that a ramp) a couple of month's ago.
beiing assured for "little" things like this i made a phonecall to my insurance company offering them to fix it myself.
told them that i could do it within € 2000
it was a no go
had to do it envolving the off tuscan dealer in my country
after 2 month's i could pick the car up again
2 new rims and tyres, alingment and respray.
total costs € 3900
??????
is that the reason the rate's are that high !

Wrote of my Tuscan this year. Insurance repair price 12,700 sterling, my DIY price 6,200,-

Mine goes in on Monday to have the rear resprayed, neighbour used to stop his van, damage does not look a lot but cracked the gel coat so cost is £1600. OUCH!!!!
