Hi , Welcome to the wonderful world of Jagos, there are links to insurance companies on the Club site that little jago gives.
MostJago owners don't have the problem of being 18 so count yourself lucky!!

For dash boards try this:
http://jagoownersclub.proboards56.com/index.cgi?board=bodywork
which is asection of a newly opened forum, you willalso ind that tthere is a yahoo forum which although less used is fullof loads of Jago pics, you will need to register with them in the normal sort of way

I've just become the proud owner of a 1982 Geep which I bought for £500 )

Trouble is the insurance for someone my age doesn't bare thinking about; it really is a horrible sum that's on the dark side of £2000...

In the meantime, anyone got any suggestions for good kit car insurers who will insure an 18yo with a provisional?!?!

18yrs and a prov licence.......I remember those days lol......if you've got a quote for £2000 then perhaps you're lucky! One of my Sons keeps on at me to let him have my Jeep and found being under 25 and a provisional was a non no with some insurers.
Once again if you read my reply to your other thread, you'll find a link to an Insurance Broker who may be able to help.

Sounds like you have an interesting Jeep by the way. Why not take some photos and do an article for the web-site and the club newsletter 'Transmissions'? I reckon we'd like to learn more.

edited to add......here's another thought, any one in your family that could insure the Jeep under their name and you added on as a named driver? I know you'll never build up your no claims bonus that way, just a thought

hi Donna and welcome its worth a try of all the normal kit insurers but driftwoods suggestion of getting a family member to insure it is probably the best bet as kit and classic insurance doesnt usually come with no claims bonus
I take it you are in or around Ludlow?
might be an excuse for a bit of a run worc. way?
any help you need feel free to contact myself or any of the comittee [i'm the technical secretary for my sins]
either by email or call on 07712 837987
dont expect too much sense after 9pm [pub time]
1800 xflow engine sounds interesting - all the others ive heard of being bored that big have used liners
was it just the engine or the geep too that was in the paris dakar?
sounds facinating
pictures would be good to see

Hi, that brings back memories we built my samuri when i was 16 and I drove it on L plates for a short time and that had a 1760 motor up front...

strangley back then kit cars were much cheaper than normal cars to insure....

Im not based to far away from you in Kidderminster.... Sadly the Jago is hidden away in my gran's garage in scotland whilst I play with some other grp bodied motors

Ah, yes.... the beautiful Blackpool V8 monsters....

I love them too, especially the Cerbera Speed 12.

The Speed 12 is not a V8 !!!

My three TVRs had 16 cylinders... between them.

Really no need to apologise- we're so-o-o laid back here.

I enjoyed my TVRs due to their rarity as much as anything- now you'll see yourself coming and going.

A good reason to keep on Jago-ing I'd say.

Cheers (and a belated welcome)
Ian

"I've decided I'm going to keep it til I'm 21 or so and insure it then, I know I'll have uni fees to pay but hey I'm not letting this car slip through my fingers! "

Word to the wise... if you've no way of driving it regularly until then (off road, willing friend/relative) make sure you keep the marine ply floor dry, leave the handbrake off and put it on stands so the tyres stay round. If it's not painted, protect the gelcoat from the elements, especially if it's red- they do fade.
Cheers

"keep the marine ply floor dry"

Lol. Funny you should say that... my Jago needs replacement door locks so the doors don't shut properly... can you see where I'm going with this? ;o)

oh and I need some suggestions as to where I can get replacement locks and/or alternatives that are simple and easy to fit.

I believe you will probably need their
Flush Fit Paddle Handle......6" x 4"
BEFFPHL.......prob looking at around £20 each

but please check your handle sizes and speak to them first before ordering.

We used to get a JOC discount years back but I should imagine it's all lapsed now

Good Luck

I've had a nose at their products, prices are reasonable.

I assume these locks will fit the Geep?

the majority of doors ive seen have an oblong combined door release handle / lock with a square pull handle on the outside and a slide release inside using a simple knob similar to a bolt on a house door the lock functions by stopping the "bolt" sliding by putting another slide activated by the key barrel mechanism prevemting the"bolt" from sliding - simple yet effective enough
last time i looked europa had these locks
good luck
