nope not a vw owner , and dont fancy being one either ta , I was a focus driver untill i changed jobs and they stuck me in a rather unpleasant laguna , i fit phone kits ect for a living and hondas and most other things jap are the worst of all cars for taking the dash apart , the plastics are a real problem , very cheap and damage or mark if you sneeze , why not spend a bit more and make them out of something a bit more subtantial ?

BTW an accord is on my company hack shortlist , so dont think i hate hondas

DTM, ever got hold of a workshop manual? I have a work shop manual for my CRX and its very useful. Shows you where every clip is and how it comes off so you dont end up snapping them all when taking the interior out!
(Also had a Celica and 200SX workshop manuals).

Most of these manuals are available for free from the specific car forum.
Or from scrots selling the same thing on Ebay.

the main problem is dusty , say on an accord to fit a dashmount bracket you have to take the top section of the centre stack off , its a couple of screws and clips , you have removed the screws and now need to lift the section out ,so you use a trim tool , and a plastic one at that , any other makes of car its not a problem but the jap stuff the plastics mark if your not carefull , ive never damaged the plastics in any car ive worked on including jap cars , but you just have to be 100 times more carefull because of the quality of the trim , but then i obviously have to question my ability and tools because of the grade of plastics honda use

Oh another thing puppychap , have you seen a phone kit dealer fitted to a handa ? using the words piss poor is being kind , they used a dashmount no holes bracket to save damageing the dash then drilled a hole through the dash to pass the cable ! cue 1 very pissed off customer a £1000 bill for a replacement dash and me going out to do the job properly , nuff said .

Well the new Honda Civic has Bluetooth, so you just need a good phone, no connection needed, just set your phone to the car and when it rings press the button on the steering wheel.

well thats ok , but i bet its an option (and overpriced) and company car drivers are not willing to pay for things like that on a car they may only have a couple of years as it comes out of thier own pocket as lease companys only pay for the basic car .

The new civics sell on value has been set above BMW 1 series, VX golf, ford Focus, Astra and only £12cless than Audi A4, something tells me that quite a few fleet cars will be Honda.

The residual value has been set by the UK's 2 biggest Fleet car suppliers. Who am I to argue with them.

Well I dont seem to have that problem.

What I really mean by that is I always tend to cause damage be it Jap, German, US or French. But for that I can definitly blame the buffon with the fat fingers (ie me!).

The Griff is the best I have had for dash etc because its all leather and so no cheap plastics to damage anyway!

I own two Hondas. Mr Menace is quite correct Honda internal plastics & any kind of regular use = lots of scratches. It's a small complaint and one of the very few I have, but it is a little annoying to see your shiny new car looking rougher inside than the 10 year old Audi it replaced...

My S2000 is bomb proof inside...

Yes I must say that I am surprised at the coments made about Honda plastics. I have always thought them to be very good.

Maybe you should cut the attitude.

He has a point, all the hondas i've seen have been really cheap inside, even the NSX had poor quality plasitcs. We had a 1997 Accord for nearly 3 years and as a result i will take a lot of convincing that honda has upped its quality, not just a newby with an engineering degree.

Really?!?

My Integra had very good quality plastics on pretty-much all visible surfaces. The NSX was comparable to it's peers at launch (1991?/1992?)...it's just that the market has moved on since then. I even thought my Dad's old Accord was good compared to the Mundano and Vectra competitors.

Don't compare them to premium Germans, compare them to other Jap and Euro mfrs.

Have to agree with the quality of the plastics. I had an 02 Civic Type-R and the quality and general fit and finish was pretty poor. Putting the electic windows fully up compressed the door trim making the doors thinner!

Plus it had more scratches in the storage areas than my current 3-series BMW and that is 3 years older and with 3 times the mileage.

And yet the fit and finish on Civics is always rated higher than the BMW's on the Top Gear survey. I do believe it was 5* again this year, not bad.

Sorry you had trouble with yours, maybe yours was a Friday afternoon car.

Premium is actually car-speak for an interior upgrade to what it should have been in the first place. It allows the manufacturer to sell the base car cheaper and more competitively and it may have the advantage of less weight. The advantage to the manufacturer is that they can charge a bigger amount for the upgrade knowing that 95% of the buyers will buy the upgrade. The extra 0.4 litre is useful for propelling the extra weight.

Actually, thinking a bit more about this my 1991 (14 years old!) CRX has got a brilliant interior considering a bomb has hit it!

Its my sprint racing/track car and has very hard suspension, stiffened chassis and gets knocked around a lot (ie crashed at Goodwood sprint). With all this happening to it the interior still doesn't squeak or rattle which is a bloody amazing considering I have had to strip it a couple of times for repairs.

Yeah the seats are ripped and there are broken bits where the previous owner installed things with a sledge hammer but this is just down to neglect by the previous bloke.

(BTW: I have to leave the interior in for the MSA regs for my sprint class. Otherwise I'd strip the lot out).

What are you apologising for? Were you the numptie Honda mechanic who made my car out of plastic used for crisp packets?

Frankly the survey could be skewed by the fact that Honda drivers have perhaps lower expectations of their vehicles compared to BMW drivers. My current 3 series is near silent when driving, has a stonking engine and bits of the trim do not randomly move when putting your window up! Is it just me or is your tone coming across as rather condecending?

Another point, why are you named after a juvenile dog? Why are you the master of them exactly?!

ok, i think this has probably gone to far now.

Puppiemaster, I think you may not be appealing to the masses or do Honda any favors at the moment. Chill. Everyone on here always defends the car they own until they buy the next one so its not really worth trying to promote one to them!

WHY is everyone saying "My BMW has better interior trim"?!? BMW's are a LOT more expensive, like-for-like. Of course they're going to be better. It's like saying "This JVC amplifier sounds crap next to my B&O system!" FFS!!!

The EP-series Civic was a little cheap inside, but arguably no worse than the equivalent Astra or Megane or 307...and my R-plate EK-series Civic was actually pretty decent inside - far better than my previous Orion.

So...putting aside such trivia...anyone any inside-info on how it's going to drive? More of that annoying Electric PAS? Or something with decent feel...get back to the 'proper' Type-R's (Integra and Accord)???

I hope so, but even other cars with electric PAS don't suffer as much as the CTR. I can't see them changing the steering system totally for the "sporty" model, but even if they improve the implementation somehow it would be appreciated.

And here's hoping the Type R has no sunroof and lower sports seats so I have a chance of fitting inside I'll have it in Championship White this time please, and don't remove the LSD...

I cant fit in my CRX properly with helmet on due to sunroof (to be fixed with CF sunroof plug and side mounted bucket seats).
Also The SI-R version from Japan came with an LSD, UK one didn't.

Seems to be a honda thing this so dont expect it to change this time!!!

I dont mean to come across as condesending, if i am a little defensive its because I work for Honda, i'm proud of our car and I'm proud its made in Swindon, I'm also very proud that it is light years ahead of any other car in the segmant.

The Typr R premium does cost more as you would expect and most things on it are options, but it really does shift and with the new suspension we are trying out it really handles well.

I know how you feel but try not to be too biased as the person that works for another car company probably feels as passionate about that as you.
