RE: Cayenne S Hybrid
Discussion
Isn't that a big fat dirty diesel loco (not an electric one) in your photo examples.
However, it's a fair bit more acceptable than a foul disgusting Cayenne, which probably pumps out more crap relative to what it pulls than a big seventies Yankee cross state freight train.
Cayennes are the epitamy of motoring obscenity, driven by fat-lardy-'two fingers to the planet' types who have no respect because they show no repsect.
Sticking a hairdrier motor under the bonnet doesn't really change much at all.
etc

You joke but technology wise we are going backwards (forget your I-pods and gadgets) I'm talking about Concorde, landing on the moon etc..when the fuel runs out we will literally be back to square one.
Pick just one example: What electric vehicle will pull a 40ft articulated lorry trailer?

Go back again - what is going to produce that electricity in the first place?

These ideas are mere PR fluff and sticking plasters - with supposed global warming we'll all be needing boats not cars.
Yeah, lets stick to using Mamoth fat lamps in our caves. covertjouster said:

It's a diesel electric hybrid. I could have posted one that was just electric but the topic isn't about a pure electric vehicle so I didn't.However, it's a fair bit more acceptable than a foul disgusting Cayenne, which probably pumps out more crap relative to what it pulls than a big seventies Yankee cross state freight train.

Porsche may be offending the purists and died in the wool Porsche fanatics (I'm certainly not one of them, never been a fan) with their ever more diverse range of cars and so called 'selling out', but it has made them a hugely, hugely succesful company.
There 911/Cayman/Boxster variants constantly pull in fabulous reviews and plaudits and are aknowledged as amongst the best out there.
Why do people constantly bh and moan about Porsche abandoning its heritage just because of an expanding range and keeping up with current trends in automotive technology. If there sports cars were suffering as a result then fair play, but they're not as far as I'm aware.
Good on them, say I!

Because they want Porsche to stick to making rear engined cars becuase it reminds them of when Ferdinand Porsche collaborated with Adolf Hitler. That's right, all Porsche purists are Nazis. Fact.

I believe the reason for these 'alternative' vehicles is an EU directive that a certain % of a manufacturers vehicles must exceed certain CO2 and MPG levels.
I believe you are right. So, as with most EU legislation, it has no place in common sense, and creates white elephants like this.XitUp said:

are now giving us an diesel electric SUV.
The end is nigh
Yes because they can't do both, can they?!? The end is nigh
You sound like a total muppet.
Do you think that selling a few CGTs, GT2s and RS pay the bills for a company the size of Porsche GmbH?
As someone else has already stated - making mainstream products pays for the niche market cars any petrolhead can get excited about.
I bet 95% of the morons who knock the Cayenne haven't even driven one.
That's a bit like saying 'I bet 95% of the muppets who knock canabalism haven't even tried it!!!!'

No, it would be like stating that you don't enjoy eating human flesh without actually trying it. Get your comparisons right before trying to pick holes in my statement.Thankfully, there are social mores that allow us to know right from wrong and unless you are involved in a plane crash and marooned in the Andes, I think we can all agree that eating human flesh, without actually having to taste it, is wrong.
Now moving on, stating that a car is horrid without actually having experienced it for yourself is juvenile at best and moronic and inane at worst.
So, now that you've also singled yourself out as a muppet, perhaps we can get back to Chicken Little's story about how 'the sky is falling' because Porsche (the most profitable car company in the world) are daring to make mainstream models?
Yes, those guys at Porsche sure are stupid... the Cayenne was such a dumb move on their part

But how will it offer V8 like performance?
By being lighter and with almost as much power...Well, it's only .4 of a second out in 0-60.
Not sure why you think it would cost loads to fix or why you think it will need it as soon as the warranty is up?
Also have a look at US sales of hybrids, they needed to come with an 8 year drive train warranty before people would buy them. Batteries cost $10,000 to replace and that figure has not come down nor is likely to while demand for precious metals needed increases. Who's going to buy a second hand hybrid a day out of warranty?
Still I guess an 8 year shelf life for cars will keep the manufacturers and the taxman happy.
Added: while some of your pictures are relevant, Iceland's power solutions are hardly readily transferable and there is still only one of those red snakes.
