Different tread on same "axle" is kind of an obvious problem of grip biggrin
I have different tread pattern front and back which is somewhat more reasonable.
I had an mot a few weeks ago and it only failed on the brakes. rear drums not holding and front starting to seize up. apparently I don't brake enough hehe

So if I have NO airbag system fitted at all then it's a pass?

No bags, a non-bag wheel, no lights no wiring and no ECU?

Or does that mean people with track toys that should have 'bags are bksed???

Bit confused.

The thing about loose wires....have they ever seen how a Land rover is wired up? the headlight wires dangle under the wings and the wash/wipe motor wires are all loose as well. How does one go about arguing that its standard like that?

I think the oil pressure light and air bag lights go out at different times. The MOT man's computer will tell him exactly how long each should be on for.
If he's anything like my MOT guy he won't be sat there with a stopwatch.

A bit sad if one of your back doors sticks just at MOT time: could try a frosty day and suggest it's frozen.

Nobody has mentioned the real problem. GET OUT OF THIS STUPID SITUATION WHERE EUROPRATS RUN OUR LIVES, OR IGNORE THEM. HOPED THE TORIES WOULD HAVE HAD THE BALLS TO DO THIS. HOWEVER, IF THEY CAN TELL US WHAT TO DO WHY CAN'T THEY TELL US TO IMPLEMENT THE 30 YEAR ROLLING DATE FOR ROAD LICENCE CONCESSIONS FOR OLD CARS WHICH ARE LITTLE USED? FORWARD, PLEASE SOME BRAVE M.P.TO TELL US, BUT DON'T EXPECT F.B.H.V.C. TO GIVE YOU ANY SUPPORT. HOWEVER, PLEASE SIGN THE ONGOING GOVERNMENT WEBSITE PETITION CALLING FOR THIS CONCESSION TO BE REINSTATED. CHART OF OTHER COUNTRIES CONCESSIONS OBTAINABLE FROM FIVA IN BRUSSELS.furious

Mine failed on tyres, apparently they needed to be the same tyre per axle.

I argued that with it being front wheel drive it had driveshafts did this still count? It did.

So I had to get 2 new tyres!
I assume you mean size rather than brand?
Yeah, size. Sorry should have stated that more clearly.

I had a 215/45 rather than a 195/40, or something like that!

I think that this one will bugger up a few people and surprised it wasn't highlighted in the original article.

Exhaust - A catalytic convertor fitted as original equipment but missing will be a reason for failure

Previously if a car was fitted with a CAT and removed (pre 1993) then it was deemed fine. Now I can imagine a lot of people will be trying to find CATS to re-fit if it was original fitment on their car and has since been removed.

Whilst on this very subject, are they talking both the Pre-CAT and main CAT? If it includes the Pre-Cat then I can imagine there will be a lot of discruntled TVR owners, aswell as modern modified cars, where the first thing to get junked is the Pre-Cat for a bit more bhp......

All cars are fitted with a self test of all dash indicator lights, so if the light does not come on during this initial test, it is a fail.
Not sure they'll apply that BUT this is worth people knowing anyway because the number of cars where people have frigged a warning light not to appear (removing lamp, covering lamp with tape etc.) is quite scary...

Oh hell yes - I can, for example, get you an MOT for almost anything you like so long as it's fundamentally roadworthy (to the level a mechanic I know would say it is - anyway).

This is a proper kosher one from a proper kosher centre - I just know a man who knows a man who can get things done (things like not having to re-attach bits to custom motorbikes or cats to your exhaust for 30 mins only - those sorts of things - SENSIBLE things).

If I can do that, the local taxi company can probably do it without lifting a finger wink

never under estimate the power of a 555 timer circuit - could be ideal for all these warning light issues

What it doesn't mention is if the MOT covers checking the bulb for the airbag/esp/abs warning light wink
Few minutes ( or hours depending on the car) behind the dash and it'll sail through that part of the test.
That's already covered, and has been for years.

If your car has ABS then the warning light must come on when the engine is started and then extinguish soon after. And this requirement is specifically so you can't just remove / crush the bulb.

This is where I am currently struggling - the manual states:
[quote]Vehicles fitted with a different engine must be tested to the requirements of whichever is older, the engine or the vehicle
If you can prove (somehow) that the engine in your car is not original and pre-92 then the cat is unnecessary and you just have to pass the pre-cat limits of CO 3.5% and HC 1200ppm. If you just removed the cat on your car then you still require it even though the engine is otherwise identical to the one from another car? Utterly ridiculous but worthy of note!

I'm panicking as I was told April was when it was all coming in. All 3 cars booked in for tests this week...

Can't see the 205 passing as it has a permanent faint "STOP" light illuminated as there's a short in the dash wiring somewhere. Been driving like that for 3 years and it's been fine, but I can't find the fault. Pull the bulb?
