Why spend all that money making your car look better (allegedly) when you can spend it making the car perform better?
Case in point is my daily driver (see profile) - brakes, suspension and engine all modded. Bodywork ding-ed, scratched and in need of an overhall (as my wife constantly reminds me )
Whenever there has been the choice on spending money on cosmetic stuff or functional stuff, I've always chosen the latter.

Yeah,
But I started the thread on modified cars before and I still dont have an answer..... stamp of feet in a very childish manner.
Why spend thousands (some people dont I know) on modifying your car to make it look like something it blatantly isnt. For example, taking a crappy old 318i and putting M sport wheels and mirrors on it - just buy a decent 325 / 328 in the first place....
And if one more person says "cos of the insurance" then I will simply say - your not trying hard enough! Yes, car insurance is expensive. Ridiculous in fact. But when I can insure a Chimaera 4.0HC for £700, a Vectra 2.5 SRi for £400 and a Citroen TD for £500 then I think anyone can get insurance.... Ok, I am 31, but my experience has shown nothing is "uninsurable"....
What do you want, spend £3K on mods that you never get back on resale, or £1k on insurance and enjoy the car..?
I rest my case mulud.
Cheers,
Paul

Final confession - I also used to regularly go to the Chelsea Cruise and my mate had a jacked up Victor with a fake bonnet scoop and flames painted down the sides, I think I still have photo's somewhere. Perhaps Ted should have an embarrasing photo gallery.

Well I have a photo for that gallery of my 1966 MK1 Ford Cortina pickup. Jacked up, black windows, shaved bodyword, murels etc. Oh and not forgetting the chromed beer barrel for a petrol tank.
