speed cameras cause deaths its official!!!
Discussion
"Government plans to introduce high visibility speed cameras may actually increase deaths rather than improve road safety, experts have warned."
Although it says that the cameras will cause more deaths by being high visibilty the police acknowledge that normal cameras are dangerous:
"The policy is aimed at cutting road accidents amid fears that many drivers break suddenly when they see or are warned of speed cameras. "

I particularly like the fact that the comments attributed to him implicitly criticise the government for being "swayed by a vocal lobby of motorists angry that they were not given enough warning of speed cameras". Incredible!
Obviously now that these comments have been made by a "public health specialist", the government can now continue to site their revenue cameras in optimum cash-gathering stealthed locations whilst they perform "more research into the effects of high visibility cameras".
I notice one quite amazing thing on the BBC report of this article though, and that is someone from the Department of Transport actually talking sense. No, really!
"errrrrr, remarkable".

But a spokesman for the Department of Transport rejected the claim. He said cameras were placed in areas where motorists were most at risk of having an accident.
He said: "Cameras are situated in areas where there is a history of accidents. When people see cameras ahead they do slow down. Slowing down at dangerous stretches of a road is very good."
He added: "Making the cameras more visible gives drivers enough distance to slow down and takes away the need for sudden braking. Gradual braking is much better than sudden braking."
"errrrrr, remarkable".

Here we go again. A "public health specialist" mouths off that speed cameras have been proven to reduce road accidents, deaths, teenage pregnancies and every other f**king thing under the sun, when there is bugger all evidence to support it and then has the bare-face cheek to whine about there being no evidence for something else.
The courts are going to be great when this kind of sh*t gets adopted.
Council for the prosecution: There's f**king shedloads of evidence that the accused did it your honour
Judge: Like what?
CFTP: Well, to be honest I cant't find any right now, but there is loads and loads somewhere I'm sure. Anyway he's got a car so he must be a villian.
Judge: Sounds reasonable to me, bang him up. Next case
Hang on a minute, isn't that how speeding offences work anyway? I'm f**king sick of "spin" and sly allegations and twisted statistics and being treated like I'm some sort of retard. I'm not the brightest guy in the world but I didn't fall out of the trees yesterday for f**k's sake and if people are going to lie to me they might at least have the decency to make it convincing. It's seriously upsetting when they feed me any old s**t and expect me to believe it, or worse still don't f**king care if I believe it or not because they're so cosy in their government jobs that the people who pay them don't even count.
What this country needs is for some of these ar*eholes to wake up with their head on a f**king stick. Then they'll realise that we're not all as stupid as they think.
I'm having a bad day and I don't care who knows it. Self-righteous pompous f**kwits calling themselves "public health specialists" and spouting sh*te doesn't help. Pass me the f**king tablets before I lose it completely.

Go for it mate! Bastards.
Sad thing is an awful lot of people seem to swallow the crap wholesale. Its sad that 95% of the population wander around in some kind of brain dead trance beleiving everything the Government/Sun/Daily Spurt/Newsnight tells them without questioning the evidence or the authority of the messenger.
Here's a list of "topics" where simplistic "arguments" get trotted out and the public buys into it bigstyle:
speed kills
'E' kills
dangerous dogs
Princess Di
any more?

So - The facts :
Today sombody who knows nothing about roads, the transport system and road planning, criticised govenment policy. The criticism was made on the basis of no facts and is pure conjecture. The Dept. Of Transport rubbished him.
Why devote a single column inch to this?
Our media have a lot to answer for in my view. They seem willing to spout any old sh*te and it doesn't matter whether or not its true and whether or not spouting it may cause harm - as long as it fills space.
They seem to believe that anyone who watches TV is a dimwit who can only understand S-I-M-P-L-E concepts S-L-O-W-L-Y.
You can just imagine can't you:
Media Type: "Speed Kills!"
Me: "Why and How".
Media Type: "Now don't worry your pretty little head about that...."
Me: "Die, fiend!"
F******s the lot of them.
(Ted: You are, of course, excepted. Everything on the Pistonheads site is fair, unbiased, complete, representative and (most importantly) I agree with it.

Don, absolutley agree mate. The other thing about our friend Ted is that there is no censorship on our views if we wish to critisise. Try writing to the press/general media stating that the comments they've made on speed is utter b**sh*t and no-one will hear it.
On this website if Ted writes an article and you don't agree (mind you this is extrememly rare) you can write so.
