Honda S2000 Airbags
Discussion
I know that this is possibly a GG thread, but I don't tend to go there, and thought that I may find the correct balance of interest and intellegence here!
At the start of next year, I shall have to take my new son to nursery three days a week - a ten minute drive each day. Unfortunately I have an S2000, and Honda are REFUSING to turn my passenger side airbag off. Strictly speaking, this means that the car is unsuitable for any passenger under the age of 14.
Obviously, this is pissing me off intensely, especially as I have just handed over more folding for a new Civic - and registered an interest in the new NSX (which is now obviously being removed).
Honda are of course being totally unhelpful, and offering no suggestions as to how to complete this simple task.
Now I'm not keen on selling the car - it appears stupid for such a simple daily trip, but that appears to be my only option.
I'm not keen on a bodge, especially as this will no doubt disconnect all the other safety systems (pre-tensioners, driver airbag etc), so does anybody have any constructive ideas on how to apply suitable pressure. I'm happy to sign a waiver regarding the passenger airbag, and to put up with a dashboard light. Other than that do I have any comback through the Sale of Goods act (although the car is nearly three years old) as I would assume that a car sold in the UK would be suitable for carrying passengers - even those under 14!
Please help!

I moderate over on s2ki.co.uk, the S2000 owners forum.
Judging by the number of times I've seen this question crop up over there, this must be Honda's stock response - "We can't do that, sir." I guess they're worried about a claim in the event of an accident.
It's probably worth you heading over to s2ki and doing a search, both on the UK board and on the US side - you may find a workaround but there's no "official" way of doing it.

I though most cars with a passenger airbag had a function where you could use the car key to turn off the airbag for such reasons, normally on the edge of the passenger side of the dash or in the glove box. I take it the Honda is an exception to this?
correct
I dont think my Z3 had it either. maybe its a 2 seater thing.

Cheers for the reply's guys. It is Honda (or at least Honda UK that are the problem here). I've written to customer services requesting a written response to the questions - what I'm going to do with this I'm not yet sure - but I'll make sure that Mr Clarkson gets a copy (who must be resible for a fair proportion of the sales).
I will get over to S2K to see what comes up.
Just can't believe they're being so stubborn. I've spent over £50k with them in the last three years - and have (lets make that had) 911 money ready to hand over when the new NSX finally made it to our shores. They have turned a very loyal customer into an enemy. Unfortunaly this hurts me a lot more than them, and I don't have time to spend the rest of my life trying to dent their sales.
Still, the Audi RS4 does look like fun

It has been done, I've seen threads on www.s2ki.com where people have met with the same response from Honda and had the airbag deactivated by a third party. I would post your question on there.
