Just heard that he has died, presumably from the cancer he had been fighting for some time.
A great loss, Barry was a real star.

Very sad. He was a great, great champion who became a very entertaining TV personality. I'm sure there'll be an excellent review of his life on the telly - it will be on my must-watch list. Travel safe, Barry.

Yeah it was at Godwood, he won that little race too.
Shame, as he was a real Racer and he'll be missed.
Rest in peace Barry.

A real hero of motorsport. To have come back the way he did after sustaining those appalling injuries was amazing.

Rest in peace Barry.

To me motorsport has lost the greatest character of the Modern age. A sad day.

Saw him last year at Donnington, he won the race with his superb style. When interved he thanked the crowd, and his mechanics first rather than talk about the race.

Truely a great racer, a great embassidor for the sport, and a true gentleman.

RIP Barry you will be sorely missed.

Met him a few times in Oz at Champ Car Races - where he was a linchpin of the Channel 10 motorsport team. Still the epitome of charm, coolness and appeared to be a picture of good health despite all the battering his body had taken. (Remember the film of him after he left most his skin on the Daytona tarmac?)

Like James Hunt - taken from us far too early. They had so much more to give the fans despite retiring when most of us weren't even born.

Condolences to your family and colleagues.
