Verily you speek the truth Ted-Meister.

Round my way the local Yoof appear to favour the early type Vauxhall Nova.
I swear you get whole flocks of them parked up together. Invariably white, with some form of dayglow grille insert and windscreen wiper covers these modern day chariots of the yobs seem to attract the 13 year old girls like flies to sh*te. Maybe its the exhaust pipes that get em going - some of them are at least three times the size of the one emerging from the arse end of my TVR. There is hope though!
Last Xmass my missus bought me the latest Clarkson video. In it, Jezza races Vicky Buttler annoying bint Henderson in some hotted up heaps.
VBH picks a maxxied up Nova for the race but Clarkson opts for a late seventies vintage Rover SD1 V8.
VBH's sneers before the race turn to tears of defeat as Jezzas mighty monster (ooohh err missus) leaves her wallowing in the waves of sound left behind by the V8. True, it wasn't too pretty on the twisty bits, but sod it, he won anyway!

Ah, those were the days Ted. I remember completely repainting my mates white Mk 1 Granada with a couple of tins of black Smoothrite paint.

As you can imagine it looked the buisness after it's 'respray'!

Go to RPI's web site for the full S.P. on Claxon's 5.2Ltr V8 SDI. There's a link in the "oily pages"

A mate of mine used to work in a scrap yard, you can imagine the sort of things he used to drive! He once turned up in this MK1 Granada that came in which was an auto, he fitted a manual box to it but didn't bother with all that was needed for it to start. In what must have been one of the earliest immobilisers, to start the car you had to open the bonnet and with a large spanner short the circuit across the starter motor - making sure it was in neutral first!
Also the rear tyres were a bit ropey so we fitted some other slightly larger ones and 'modified' the wheel arch with a large lump hammer.
Tsk....kids today don't know they are born - Citroen bloody Saxo!

I'm afraid i will have to disagree. I hate most cars that emerged from the eighties. Dont get me wrong, i'm in the same boat when it comes to loathing Nova's, Saxo's and XR3i's. Cars from the eighties, especially Granada's, all had one styling aspect in common, they all look like boxes. They also consume vast amounts of fuel and have very sluggish performance.

No. It was a Renault 12 TS Estate. Absolutely crap. It was painted Hammerite BRONZE but you could see the previous yellow colour on its roof where the paint hadn't stuck too well.

Makes me smile thinking about it. That is smile nervously and quickly change the subject!

Now I'm confused - Why is the Tasmin etc known as a Wedge and not a box. Time to change all the site references then Ted.

I bet you don't remember the Sweeny either do you - Granada, great mota for catching blaggers in. How many other cars do you know that had motorway services named after them?

"Saddo saxo" drivers round my area drive me nuts too. These kids drive up and down the high street with dustbin sized exhausts strapped on the end of an asthmatic one litre lawnmower engine. The local Halfords store must be earning more money off these kids shifting cheap plastic and stickers than the local Citroen dealer! I guess they will grow up one day, bless 'em.

Yep - and they'll be primed to step straight up to Citroen MPVs when they're upto their ears in illegitimate offspring by the age of 21..

oops.. a social comment too far ? lol..

I'm sure they will loose interest in playing with their toy cars once they actually discover girls.

My hairdresser's son is a Saxo boy. During my latest hair and beard rehash dad explained that the low interest finance lease/purchase deal included free fully comp insurance. He was previously paying £1.5K TPFT on a Nova plus higher finance/repayment costs based upon full value, so in absolute terms he was paying far less for a brand new Saxo than he was for a knackered Nova (no go ?) which after 3 years would be worth little.

When the initial hire period expires he can walk away from the Saxo, hopefully with a few years NCB, and look for something better, Citroen hope it will be another one of theirs, they may well be right but it certainly explains why so many young lads drive new Saxos.

i agree some of the older cars like granadas were great but nowadays fuel is too expensive for these vehicles.and as for slating the saxo have you driven a vts,i dont think you have have you.i have a 2000 vts with 152bhp with 0-60 under 7 seconds and top speed of OVER 140mph,i dont think there is anything saddo about that,i have had several races on straight roads i.e dual carriageways with cars such as golf gti 16v beaten with ease, honda integra type r satyed with him no problems and MR2 2.0GT nearly managed to go past on full throttle.my last car was a subaru impreza turbo and that was quick but i am very very happy with the saxo.so i really suggest if you really want to slate modern cars slate other cars and leave the saxo alone.
