Chrysler UK launches 500bhp supercar

Only 15 Dodge SRT-10s available in the UK

As previewed on PistonHeads here, Chrysler UK will launch the new 2005 Dodge SRT-10 supercar in the UK this November. Fifteen of the 500 bhp V10 supercars will be sold in the UK during 2005, priced at £77,500.

The left-hand drive 8.3 litre two-seater produces 525 lb/ft of torque, a top speed of 190 mph and 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds. On cars supplied by Chrysler dealers, standard features include a full Thatcham Category 1 Alarm and immobiliser system, xenon headlights and lamp wash, push button starter, 18 inch front and 19 inch rear wheels with run-flat tyres and a three-year warranty. The Brembo brakes help the SRT-10 to an estimated stopping distance of less than 100 feet from 60mph.

Chrysler UK's MD Simon Elliott said, "There is no doubt that the Dodge Viper has been a huge phenomenon in the UK since it was launched in 1993. The new SRT-10 takes the idea of an American supercar to a new level – it’s an out and out driving enthusiast’s car, combining brute power and classic yet outrageous styling.

"The UK launch of the Dodge SRT-10 will appeal to performance drivers who don’t want to follow the crowd with European performance cars. Our cars have a strong following in the UK, despite only ever being available in small numbers. We will maintain the exclusivity of the Dodge by only bringing 15 of these 500 bhp cars into the country in 2005."

To make sure all European-bound cars meet EU standards, performance engineering specialist Pro-Drive has re-engineered more than 50 of the SRT-10’s components. All these European components are fitted to vehicles on the production line at the Dodge assembly plant in Detroit.

looks fantastic!

but for the love of god, what is the obsession with run flat tyres these days?

i haven't heard one good review of run flats(i stand to be corrected)

i've been driving for 10 years(not long i admit)and have had 1 slow punture in all that time.

i think on sports cars its a

high performance tyres work far better

No need for a spare .......

And is more considerate than just having a can of stuff (that dont work anyway) in the boot

I'll happily be corrected, but that seems like a hell of a lot of money for something not very special. What have I missed?

USD 83K in the states. More rip off Britain.

Nice looking car and no doubt brutal stats but too pricey.

Then again, the fact they only have 15 for 2005 means they realise it will appeal to someoen who cares not a jot.

i realise that, obviously!but how often do you need a spare?

if run flats performed as well as high performance tyres then i would say its a good thing but they don't!
aren't supercars supposed to have as few compromises as possible?
BMW's have run flats but M cars do not because they don't perform as well.

When you need one , you really need one

Lets see ,,in the last 10 years i have had
2 flats ......

both times and i guess any time you get a flat
it would seriously ruin your day , i know it would mine.

Dont know about the BMW M cars thing , possilbly less weight so no spare ?

Im sure these on the Viper have been tested and perform fine

That's how they come from the factory, the number plates ok, but the car is crooked.

Looks like 'V8' and 'US Muscle car' aren't tight together anymore: Long life the V10.

Maybe Lambo can make a proper roadster now . . .

Looks yum and yes, a bit Super Marcos-ish. TVR?: nah, look again.

looks a lot better with the body kit-on

went to a little event hosted by Dodge last month when 600 vipers turned from around the world, plenty here to look at, all sorts of colours and specs

www.vipergts.dsl.pipex.com

The new concept coupe SRT version was released to us,
which was cool as it hadnt even been shown to the motoring press, should be out in 18 months in the USA.

Got to thrash a few laps around a handling course in a massive freshly tarmac'd car park, and a couple of hot laps around the bank circuit and in-field at the Texas Speedway, the SRT is a sharp handler, excellent on the brakes and goes like stink, but well over priced in the UK, if you want one import direct from USA, there's loads of nearly new with reduced prices to match

Change the pound sign for a dollar sign, and laugh all the way to the bank. If they applied the exchange rate and sold them for a reasonable price, they could shift thousands and make a lot more money I'll warrant.
