Hotter Hatches
We're heading for a fierce battle of hot hatches once again. Ford has finally debuted the RS Focus and now Peugeot is launching the new 206 GTi with a 2 litre petrol engine. The current GTi boasts 138bhp, whilst the new model has a whopping 180bhp. The dash to sixty takes 7.1 seconds and the little hatch can even reach 143mph if you dare.
Bolt on goodies include 17" alloy wheels, rear spoiler, a twin chrome exhaust and colour coded bodywork. Inside there are racing style sports seats in both the front and in the rear. The instrument panel has black dials with chrome surrounds, and the interior is polished off with an aluminium gear knob and pedals.
The 206 GTi 180 will go on sale in the UK in January 2003. Full specification and pricing details will be announced nearer the time.
Their recent offerings have been pretty dire on the GO front.
I am glad, though, to see that the 206GTi comes as standard with "fry/freeze your hand" gear knob, "slippy slidey" pedals and most important of all, "blinded by morning sun" dash embelishments. After all we are all aware these are the essential bolt-on's to make "ya motor go quicker...init!". I had to put them on myself when I bought the CR-X.
143mph...from 180 brake,is that all? My lil' baby twink must have more muscle than thought, if you know what I mean.

I obviously would never do any such thing...
...but surely those with the corrage of their convictions should be rewarded.
Could this be an idea for the annual PH awards?

I knew I forgot one on the "New Accord" thread last night, sorry I was tired. The Corrado was a CR-X contempary and equally ahead of it's time.
Fantastic motor!
Any one else got any golden-not-so-oldies that would blow today's young pretenders into the weeds? C'mon show us what you've got! (without making us trawl the personal profiles).

The same Corrado VR6 that Car Magazine called a LEMON?
...and AutoCar describe as "vastly underrated; it's one of the best FWD cars of all time" and EVO say "Still to be bettered for all-round ability and appeal". Yes, that's the one.
(Don't worry, gnomesmith, I recognise a wind-up when I see one.

It was their particular car though, obviously a freitag abend auto.
Personally I think they are one of the best performance hatchbacks since the XR3 (thats what I call a wind up).
quote:Hmmm, think that the VR6 that Car called a lemon, was the Golf VR6 rather than the Corrado (which I agree is excellent). If I could be bothered, I would go into the loft & find the magazine. The reason that I remember it was a Golf was because my old boss had one & we used to wind him up about having a lemon - his one had many problems too - he eventually crashed it & ended up getting another, which he also had problems with & also crashed, but that's another story.....Ahhh the Snake Pass - claims many a Golf....
No wind up, Car ran a special issue on the VR6 and described it as the worst car they had ever run as a staffer.

cheers,

another hornet's nest well and truely whipped up.
I have to wonder whether in their infinate wisdom(?), CAR were also playing up the reference to the now ancient Beetle advertising campaign "LEMON?", or is that a little high-brow?
Mouse.
...hang on a second...cr-x,cr-x,cr-x,cr-x,cr-x,cr-x...

..that's better, go forth in peace my children.
