only an utter idiot would take a car to 10/10ths on the road.
And thats my point wink

Having the best technical wheels is totally pointless if they look poo like the SP12's or tiny 16" things.

Not really - it's the exact opposite of your point. The Cerb's behaviour on Spiders is not especially good so any sensible driver has no option but to stay miles away from the limits because when it bites on Spiders, it bites hard.
How is it the exact opposite???

My point is clear, why do you need technically better wheels for the Cerbera when you can get no where near the cars limits on the road. (with either wheels fitted)

Apart from the obvious ride and safety benefits, quite simply you can be less afraid of unexpectedly finding the limits on the road.

Plus other things, like less tendency to tramline which is a low profile stretched front tyre issue rather than a Spider specific one.

What about all the other sports cars running 18" wheels? They all manage ok with monumentally heavy 18" wheels. I really don't believe that you could noticeably lower the polar moment of inertia by the margins such as you describe. I've driven cerb's with different types of wheels, some drive crap, some great. It's the setup that's most important, most of them are a country mile out.

How many other sports cars with 18" wheels are as light as a Cerbera?

Most other sports cars running 18 inch wheels were designed for 18 inch wheels, the Cerbera was not!

I am not aware of another make of sports car that fit spiders as a standard fitment, there may be a reason for thiswhistle

Run spiders if you like the look but you will have a compromised ride, reduced the limits of adhesion resulting in longer braking distances. If it just 18 inch wheels you are after why not put a good 18 inch wheel on your car.

Oooh, you know what I can smell ????

A Track Day where Cerberas turn up and try each other's tyre/wheel combinations out.

Anyone got the balls to put their money where their mouths are ?

(Actually, there's that MIRA test track up in the Midlands which would probably be better. Anyone know if it can be booked ?)

Don't take this as a back-down, but I'm not doing an 800 mile round trip to prove a point which should be obvious.

I would be up for that smile

I am genuinely interested in the difference.

PS will have to be somewhere which isn't to hot on db levels, last time I went to Brands Hatch it was a bit of a push to get on hehe

Sounds fun! I can share 2 sets of 16" Oz Saturns. One with Toyo T1Rs and one with R888s

Has anyone got the same tyres on 18" Spiders or 17" RLs ?

As i understand it from a very reliable source you can't get the nice 330mm discs under the 16" rims so there must be a braking trade off there?

True, although 16" wheels take much less persuasion to slow down their RPM due to reasons above so it shouldn't be taken for granted that the setup will be less effective. It may still be the other way around.

I am running 330mm disks under 16" Saturns. The caliper clearance is tight and I made a custom spacer to do it - but it can be done.

However brake performance is not the limit, tyre grip will give up long before the brakes do! I only went to the 6 bolt calipers and 330mm disc because availability of the smaller disks is/was terrible.
