New niggles...
Discussion
I'm a new TVR owner (bought my Cerbera in May) and I'm absolutely loving it.
Wondered if you guys could help me resolve a couple of minor niggles, though, or put my mind at ease if they're typical:
1. The doors don't seem to have a stop mechanism, so they'll open until something gives if not careful. When I bought the car, there was a crack in the fibreglass caused by this problem. Is there anything that can be done about this? (I'm only worried that someone who doesn't know the car will crack the fibreglass again when they're getting in or out. It makes horrible creaking/cracking noises every time.)
2. The front windscreen steams up all of the time. If I put the blower on it, I boil!
3. The horizontal seatbelt arms clash with the speakers, particularly the passenger one. This is no biggy, but it does mean that the seatbelt gets all tangled cause its arm is wonky.
4. The stereo system is awful, particularly the radio reception - I can only receive BBC Radio 1 and 2... and the engine sound transmits through the speakers. I don't mind too much, 'cause 95% of the time I'm on my own and I like listening to the engine, but ocassionally my wife is in the car for longer journeys, and I'd rather listen to the radio then!
Maybe these things are typical of the marque, but if there's a solution to any of them, please let me know.
Cheers, Matt

Cannot help on that one

So does mine - i basically try to avoid taking it out in wet weather
3. The horizontal seatbelt arms clash with the speakers, particularly the passenger one. This is no biggy, but it does mean that the seatbelt gets all tangled cause its arm is wonky.
?? My seatbelt arms are nowhere near my speakers. Do you mean the ones in the doors or have you got some more?

Mine is s**t too, so never use it.

Firstly, welcome to the fold.

I don't really have a problem with this, if my windscreen starts to steam up I just turn the blower on (not full whack) and it clears. If I put it on full, then yes I would boil.

Mine are nowhere near the speakers, and the speakers are mounted flush anyway. So, they wouldn't get tangled, I think.

I only tend to listen to the radio for traffic reports, and they come out loud and clear. The rest of the time I listen to a cd.
Not much help I know, but I don't think your problems are typical of all Cerbera's.

Hmmm... My speakers are raised by, maybe, 10mm. Panasonic, I think. Maybe I could replace them with some flush speakers?
Regarding sound system, someone at work mentioned that the poor reception could be to do with earthing and insulation of the wiring; how can that be fixed?
Sounds as though steaming up is typical, though? What about there being no door stop mechanism, so the doors open until the bodywork stops them, or until it cracks?

Hmmm, I'll have look when I get home - it was only from memory.

Don't know, and don't know.

Matt,
I did look, but have only just got around to posting the answer - my memory is shot.
The speakers do stand slightly proud, probably around 5mm.

Try using the a/c on to demist the screen (if you haven't done so already).
Do the newer Cerbs have facility to direct the aircon onto the screen then? Mine only blows cold out of the horizontal cabin blowers. Havign said that I really don't have a problem with my screen misting up.
As for the door stops, they should stop, just like conventional door stops. The cracking/creaking sound is maybe because the bar has come loose?
Not had a problem with seatbelt/speaker tangling either and my radio reception is perfect but I have a "proper" aerial mounted rear nearside wing, is that a unique feature as well?
The radio reception seems to be a trait of the car, but the engine noise can be fixed quite simply.
Earthing was mentioned earlier as this is usually the main cause.
You need to ensure that the earth to the radio is good i.e. on clean surface, not painted. It is usually best to use on of the cars earthing points, but be careful not to take this too far from the point of power like the boot or opposite side of the car etc
If this all looks OK, but a ground loop isolator from Halfords or some other audio shop for about £5.
Will clear it up a treat!
Sorry I can help with the others, am still shopping and reading the archives myself, but shall be posting here soon!

Welcome
As someone else posted - steamy windows can be a sign of moist carpets. If its all nice and dry then you could try using rainx anti fog on the inside of the screen. I can also recomend rainx normal for the outside.
My rear speakers are about 10mm proud of the rear pillar but are further back than the seat belt mount I think (I'll have to check now)
