Just as I fix my long serving oil leak ...

Now this ...

I have trawled the previous posts and didnt find my symptoms all be it similar ...

no problems with car at all ... just serviced at Offords (my next call tmrw!).

noticed a funny squeel tother day and took it out today to see if its OK and clearly not ..

clutch pedal fine with engine off - all gears OK

Im getting a quiet whining noise when clutch enguaged with engine on

intermittent medium noise squeal in neutral no clutch

and today pedal went mad staying down a few seconds then coming up and felt jerky ... odd

now parked in garage now expecting the worst!!

Any ideas ... clutch or master and slave?

Thanks in advance .. DAS

Not sure. Check for oil on the floor (slave) or oil near your feet in the car (master cylinder).
When my fingers broke (on the diaphram spring), i could get it in gear when switched off, but not when it was switched on. The pedal also felt jerky. As for the noise...release bearing!!dont know.

My guess is the release bearing sticking on the input shaft splines. It needs some copperslip grease on it or use more often. Or, as said above damaged splines.

David

I had a similar problem, which was cured by a flush and bleed of the system, mnaged to get lots of fluid into the drivers footwell (dam pressure systems) but sorted the problem.

Good luck!

Have a look at the Clutch Master Cylinder, look at the fluid. If you can see any black rubber bits in it then seals are breaking down eather in the slave or master. If you cant flush the system through with fresh fluid, checking the used stuff for and black seal deposits. If all these tests come out clear then I would guess at bearing or some other mechanical problem.

If i was you i would bleed the clutch system putting new clutch fluid through it first as this is easy and cheap but if this wil not cure your problem then you may be looking at a new one of these [pic]http://photos.fotango.com/p/eba00428935f00000001.jpg[/pic]

THANKS TO YOU ALL ... GUESS I KNOW THE SCENARIOS ...

HOPEFULLY A BLEED WILL HELP ... BUT IN REALITY HAVE BRACED MYSELF FOR A REALLY BORING THING TO BUY...

I know its a must have and I could have spent more on a car and be looking at a new clutch but its still unseen and boring ....

My workload at present is stopping me investigating further ... maybe I will limp over to Offords at the end of the week ....

Cheers to you all ... happy motoring ... DAS

?boring?

I think you've really got that 'don't panic' thing well under control there

well it is boring ... Who says Im not panicing

A nice new clutch should last a fair few more fun filled miles ... so thats good ... but a spangley set of new wheels would have been better!!!

Good job I still love the car to bits ... need to find out now if its old or new style clutch ... I have invoices showing slave cylinder was done at 35k miles but dont know if clutch was done at same time ...

A nice haynes manual would be good (not that Ive ever used them on my previous cars!) - that bible bloke should write quicker ...

Still its only going to need a bleed anyway ...

David, you may want to buy yourself an 'easy bleed' kit. Then it will be fully bled in moments.

There is a bleed hose already for the clutch.

How do you mean? The easy bleed supplies air tyre pressure to the master cylinder from the tyre valve. All you have to do is open the bleed valve on the slave and let the fliud flow out. Very easy to use and saves using 2 people or pumping on the pedal. Have I missed something?

I'm sure this is the bleed hose for the clutch.

You cant probably see it in the photo, but if you look on the car, you should see it.

Oh ... I wondered if that hose was a bleed hose ... hence one of my comments on haynes manual ...

the masacistic part of me would like to strip her down as part of the bonding process ... the realist says I dont have the time ...

another day passes and ive done nothing about it ...

Hey maybe when I get her out of the garage the fairies may have fixed it .....
