Anyone here have one of the old RV8 Cerbs? Were many made? Was reading through a book on my girlfriends mom got me for xmas, saw mention of the earliest cerbs being RV8 powered, cant say I recall hearing anything about them here though.

"The Ultimate History of Fast Cars" auth: Jonathan Wood

"A 5 litre Rover-based V8, courtesy of the Griffith 500, was offered as an option, but a much improved cerbera appeared at the 1994 british motor show..." Goes on to to say "the cerb was the first recipient of a TVR initialted al melling-designed 4.2 v8 engine which replaced the rover units from the 1995 season..."

Ive not heard this elsewhere either, other than in the book.

Is it not arse about face, at one time TVR were considering an AJP Griffith (93 motorshow?), but opted for the 500 instead.

Never heard of a factory RV8 Cerbera

I've got that book too, but just assumed it was a bit of a misprint, or poor journalism.

I would'nt want a RV8 powered Cerb anyway

It's bollox.

The Griff was going to get the AJP that's why production stopped. Then the delays became too long so they restarted production with the Griff 500.

I think there are only a couple of later owner conversions, one person on here I think (can't remember his name) and one that Rhino Motorsports were/are selling.

Getting an RV8 block to fit involves cutting the chassis and it's bits about too.

The RV8 will go into a Cerbera if you remove and re-position one of the cross tubes in front of the engine.
The only other chassis mods are for the engine mounts.

The conversion is ideal for people who want the Cerbera's everday practicality but prefer the driving characteristics and maintenance costs of the RV8 engine. Oh and as for the sound!

concur with Ted.

PW said that one of the reasons they didn't go with the RV8 was engine bay size.

I wouldn't like it either - the AJP8 is a very different engine, and frankly, as much as I love the RV8 (god I love the Chim and Griff ....) the AJP8, and also the sp6 are a major step up in terms of sheer performance !

Saw Phill Reygates Rover powered Cerbera last weekend, very tidy and sounds good to.
Regarding the factory fitting Cerberas with Rover engines, they initially intended to use the rover unit but soon changed their mind, and long before production started, Cerbera started out with the intention of being a 2+2 Chimaera, then it soon evolved into a "supercar".

wow. just read the rhinosport website .. that's impressive stuff .. can you really supply a built RV8 engine, fit it and supply an ecu for less than the ajp8 rebuild price, typically around 2-3k? What sort fo spec of RV8 would that get? .. sounds like a great possibility as ajp8 spares eventually dry up and rv8 power gets more tempting, and as cars drop well under 10 it makes even more sense.

Oooh, "Taraka" RV8 power, reliability, and sound in a Cerb? Yes please.

I'll keep the name of my engine builder quiet then, most i've ever been charged for a ajp8 rebuild is 2k plus vat ... but like i say once parts have dried up it's a winner

LS1 seems logical enough .. boostedls1 has already measured the engnie bay at my workshop .. we just need someone to give us a car and wad of money though

I have an engine here that needs a rebuild. Care to make me an offer?

I bought an ajp8 last year to go in the S and never got around to building that one, so not up for any more i think .. it's up for sale though if you're interested? now the S is for sale to fund the rolling road there's a lot of parts kicking around that are now surplus to requirements ...
