Looks cool, rigs are geat pieces of kit (if you know how to use them properly)

Will look nice in a very sunny location!

Why does the car appear to be going fast on your driveway?

Is this the old trick of setting a long exposure time, then rolling the car forward slightly to give the impression of speed?

Oh? I had presumed it was the ole dodgy Cerb handbrake letting the car roll away given there's no-one in the car

Actually - Brooksie, can you post a pic of your rig? I've got an ErgoRest which is OK but doesn't get far enough away from the car.

Edit to add - I like the pic btw, though maybe a polariser would help cut down the glare?

yes its amazing how fast a Cerb can get on ones driveway

Car was gently rolled forwards and i remotely took the pic .. long shutter speed and bobs your uncle. I make programmes that appear on your tellybox for a living so had plenty of grip to make up a rig. Its essentially a b-hague twin pod suction mount with one pod removed, an extended grip bar then coupled with 2 magic arms on suction pods clamping onto the grip bar to ensure that the camera stays steady.

I'll take some better pics .. this was just a test shot, wasn't so bothered about exposure .. more trying to concentrate on shutter speeds.

Nice work. What camera did you use - just curious about the weight ?

There are plenty of rig users over in the Photo and Video forum if you need any advice.

sure .. here you go.

I've ordered a longer pole (another 36" longer than the pole you see here) which will allow me to come further out from the car. I'll then use the smaller pole as support using a superclamp to latch onto the main pole .. and then a further third support using a magic arm and again a superflamp onto the main pole.

Its solid as a rock, in terms of weight it was absolutely fine with my camcorder which is significantly heavier than the stills cameras.

Blimey! Thanks for that - it looks a bit... 'industrial'! Good effort though.

lol true ... but it won't damage the car, it won't fall off and it's solid as a rock ..

I'm assuming that's not OK to use whilst driving along though?

Hi Carl

I wouldnt perhaps use such a large camera for full on moving shots, nor have the rig so far out but yes it would be absolutely fine to drive on the road. The Arri pro suction mounts are incredibly strong.

Though i work in tele a couple of years i started a small company relasing DVD's all about Japanese car culture, both the legal and illegal sides they were filmed all on location in Japan. All the shots below are grabs from one of the films and were all taken using rigs with camera's attached .. as i say they are video grabs hence low quality.

Another couple of grabs from a different shoot ..

If you look at the side window on the Skyline on the right you can see a very small rig .. the reason it was very small is the car was later used for a top speed (wangan) run ..

much later that night it did this (confirmed by GPS too) ...

now having gone through some old shots .... i found this grab too, just filmed from the side of the road ..

we think we got flames ? .. T88 Turbo, 2JZ engine and a whole lot of overfueling (no max power flamer kit .. genuine as they come)

And they're all kept attached by suckers? Surely you must lose one occasionally?

yes all attached by pro 5" suction mounts, never lost a rig/camera throughout all the time during making those films.

potentially yes .. which is why i stated if you were to film on the public roads you wouldnt use such a large camera nor would you have the rig so far out. rolleyes

Do the suckers leave any marks - any precautions to take before attaching them?
