If the Bridgestone S02's are hard to get hold of now, what is the general consensus on the S03's v the Toyo's considering TVR are supplying new cars with the Toyo's?

Also, can anyone recommend a supplier around the London area whose prices are very reasonable?

Edited to say - Do they do the S03's in 235/35 or are they only in a 40 profile? If so are you S03's owners OK with the 40 profile?

We had SO3's but were recommended Falken FK451's when we change from 16" six spoke Cerby alloys, to the new Spiders. The drive seems much better than the Bridgestones (wet & dry). If you compare the tread, the FK451's dissipate the water away from the center of the tyre, to the edge. Whereas with the SO3's, there's no outside groove to allow the water to run away from the tyre. Cost? £500 a set. As for Toyos - can't comment as we've not had a set, but consensus seems to be that they are stickier than SO3's, but don't last as long.

Have just got S03's on the rear of our Cerb and cannot really tell any difference between them and the S02's- although I would accept that I probably have not really pushed them that hard yet.

£119 quid from a place in Essex which I did not think was too bad!

Happy motoring

Just fitted SO3s to the front of mine: 225/35/18.

About £129 each (unfitted) from Micheldever (www.micheldever.co.uk).

Jon

Jon,

Where is this place in Essex?, mail me if you prefer. The best quote I've had so far for two S03's 255/35/18 is from MICHELDEVER at £330 supplied and fitted or £325 supplied and delivered.

Cheers for that, I tried them and they quoted me £176 each tyre which is not far off MICHELDEVER's price.

BigT - Personally I think the Toyo's are ace. I ran them on your car for a bit. Took them off and kept them as spares for track days and put the S02's back on. I found at 35 profile the softer construction of the Toyo makes for much better behaviour on our crap roads. On S02's the car followed every imperfection in the road and made it difficult to drive despite checking the alignment twice. Put the Toyo's on and the car was transformed. Very progressive and predicatable on track days too.

Cheers Neil, thanks for the info. I will get a quote for the Toyo's and see what deal I can get.

Will I be OK having Toyo's on the back and my S02's on the front, then replacing the front ones when needed??

I have SO2's on the back and Toyos on the front with no problems at all. By the way I put on 40 profile to match my rears (18"). The clearance is very very close but still works.

Just ordered some Toyos from www.4NewTyres.co.uk at the end of last week. £158 each including VAT & delivery for 245/40R18 on the back. (And £126 each for 225/40R18 on the front) They arrived in perfect condition yesterday - can happily recommend them.

Toyo don't do 255/40R18, though, only 255/35R18. Or if they do, I couldn't get them from anywhere! Guess it depends on the profile you want.

Currently my car has 4 different tyres all the way around - A Pirelli, a Dunlop, a Bridgestone S02, and a Bridgestone Potenza thanks to the garage's attempts to supply it with 4 new(ish) cheap-as-they-could-manage tyres when I bought it. The handling is shocking above about 60, even on good roads. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Don't think different fronts & rears would be too bad whilst you wear out a couple, though. Did that to my Elise on purpose, and got it to improve the handling.

Thanks for all the replies peeps.

I've decided on going for the TOYO's (for the rears for now) and can you get them anywhere??? I can't unless I pay 200 quid a tyre. They seem to be on back order from everywhere else I try who is quoting a reasonable price.

I need a set of rear boots by Friday or I'm in sh*t.

Did you try 4NewTyres? They were fine about getting them shipped straight out last Thu/Fri. How about cars.potn.com? They've only got them listed up to 225s, but you could give them a call and see... good prices, too. Or get in touch with www.mytyres.co.uk (phone number on their site), and see if they can help out.

Hope I'm not repeating stuff you've already tried! Good hunting...

whilst we are on the subject. With 18 spiders there appears to be two trains of thought. For rear it is either 255/35/18 or 245/40/18. Not sure about fronts. I have 225/35/18 but I have seen cars with different.

Anybody tried both and felt an improvement?

Cheers James but 4newtyres.co.uk don't stock 255/35/18's in TOYO's only 245/40's and mytyres.co.uk don't stock TOYO's anymore and can't get S03's til next week.

I could of got S03's for tomorrow at a reasonable price but through PH, I've decided on TOYO's, means they're even harder to get hold of!!!

HELP!!

One good thing (or maybe a bad thing) outta this is I'll stop putting the mileage on and have to get on public transport this weekend

As an alternative?

www.blackcircles.com stock Goodyear EAGLE F1 GSD3 255/35 R18 ZR at £171.61 per tyre. Had Eagles in the past when I couldn't find S02's.

i think you'll find that 245/40 18s are incorrect and will slightly alter the gearing 'cos the overall size is too big.
best stick with 255/35 18s.

From Toyo's site, the 245/40s do 807 revolutions per mile, and the 255/35s do 830, giving you a speed reading about 3% lower than it should (assuming the 35s are spot on!). i.e. 1mph out @ 30mph. Personally, I'd rather have the comfier ride, but that is a good point. It'd be interesting to know how many revs. per mile the Cerbera's speedo is calibrated to. Anyone got an idea?

not sure about revs/ratio's etc,but my speedo is absolutely spot on with my GPS speed device so 255/35 18s must be ok.
