had this fitted a couple of months ago and i am happy with the improvement, apart from one thing.

when i go over a ridge or similar that goes straight across the road, ie: both front wheels hit it at the same time i get quite a 'slap'that makes the bonnet jump etc.

ive tried softening the front dampers but this doesnt seem particularly effective, and maybe spoils other aspects of handling etc.

i wondered what others on here who have nitrons fitted set theirs at?

at the moment i have the front softer than the rear which is probably the wrong way round, for a cerbie anyhow.but im struggling to find a happy medium, any suggestions?

thanks
mike.

Mike

I had it fitted recently, I'm not sure of the settings as I did not fit it (and it is going back to have the back stiffened up a tiny amount) however it had a full laser geometry set up and the rear ARB has been taken off and is currently sitting in the boot!

The front 'feels' harder than the rear but that could be me thinking it is.

The car has been transformed, I can carry sooooo much more speed through corners and the tramlining I used to get on bad A roads has gone.

The reason we are tightening up the rear is to try to reduce the feeling of compression when on undulating roads.

I'll get the setting s next time I speak to Offord and let you know.

Oh did I mention it is a lot lower?

I usually run with the front set stiffer than the rear so that the handling is more predictable. However, at a saturated Castle Combe yesterday I took the opportunity to explore how the car handled in torrential rain, standing water etc. I can’t remember having so much fun on a wet track before. I managed 213 miles and was quite often the only car on the track.

I let the instructor, who has raced Tuscans amongst other cars, have a drive. He tried to get the car sliding but decided that with the settings as they were the rear had too much grip so it would start to slide but then suddenly grip which then upset the front end, so it wasn’t predictable. On his suggestion, I made the rear much stiffer than the front and he immediately proclaimed it to be much better, which he demonstrated by some well-held slides. I guess the car needs to be set up differently for driving smoothly and quickly in the dry to being able to slide it all over the place in the wet?

I pretty much had to put my own wishes aside when doing the testing on the Nitron kits, I like a car that slides about but that isn't fast .. the kits are deliberately set to make the car understeer slightly, the rear has far more traction than std and this can make it twitchy especially if the rear bar is removed as you have done - I listen to what the owner wants and sometimes take the bar off, sometimes leave it on, plus have a choice of nine different cerbie set-ups for different styles and uses.

What if any difference would it make to the nitron kits if you run 18" wheels?

Mike .. if you like I can chat to Guy again and see if we can get them rebuilt with less high speed bump in them? they can be turned around at nitron and sent out again within the day so you'd only lose the car for a couple of days .. worth a think.

Blimey. Nine set-ups?! I thought that 425 front and 300 rear had been settled on as the ideal spring rates for "enthusiastic" driving and comfort and that the damper itself was pretty much single spec! (Swish new website by the way, Nitron.)

I (would) just like a car that's fast & neutral on track and doesn't shake your fillings out on shoddy road surfaces the rest of the time.

Have you had your holiday then Joolz?!
