My cerbie has been making a strange groaning noise, a bit like a sticky door opening slowly! seems to be accompanied by slight vibration through the steering. It happens more often during high speed cornering, but also seems to happen occasionally when coming off and on the throttle. Recently had it into Offords for some work, and they checked over the rack and steering components, they did find a small PAS leak which they fixed, but everything else was apparently in order.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers Kojak, checked my oil level recently and it did seem fine, as I am getting a vibration through the steering intermitently I have a feeling something is worn there. I had a similar problem with a griff i used to own, and it turned out to be a worn steering component.

Its due a trip to Offord in May for a service so will get them to have a look then. Better start saving now...

Thought you said Offords had checked the steering etc..Keep an eye on it.

Check the PAS fluid level. I think you may find this is low. Air getting into the actual PAS pump will cause this groaning, usually worse while steering round a fast corner one side than the other.

Mine did this in my Vectra. Topped it up, and it was fine.

Hello,

I have had this problem twice. It is most certainly low oil. A quick call to Jools will give you all the info you need on the why's and wherefore's.

I find a large top-up and a couple of re-checks on the oil levels the next day should sort it.

The noises mine would make were terrible. It would only do it when turning sharply left or when you lay off the gas and turn left. It was very odd. A certain load of pork pie eating TVR specialists charged me £600 to investigate the problem and they came up with NO solution. When I turned up there to pick up the car they had the bonnet off and a young chap sat on top of the engine whilst the guy was doing left turns. I was very disheartened to hear that they had no answers and just a bill.

Anyway after a call to Joolz and the air-lock / re-call / 'onion' ? discussion I examined the oil levels carefully (not that I didn't before) and stuck a bit extra in and it was fine.

Tony

Thanks for all the responses.

Noodles, finally got round to checking the oil level in the car today, the dipstick showed the oil level to be just above the "add oil level" put another litre in and bingo, no more groaning noise!

Must be priceless technology that TVR have engineering into the Cerbera, a car that groans when it needs more oil!!

What is the 'add oil level'? There is only one important mark ie the max level. You always want the oil at max level and nowhere near minimum.
