For some strange reason (mainly boredom) I felt the need to total up the expenditure on 4 years of Cerbera ownership.

I hope for those who are thinking of Cerbera ownership this should give you a good guide of what to expect over a decent period of time. During the 4 years my attitude has been if it needs doing it gets done-no scrimping or making do. And for those who already own a Cerbera if you feel the need to work out your costs-don’t!

The upshot is that all costs excluding fuel and depreciation are £19322.39. Made up of:

Servicing and repairs £14531.70

Insurance £2325.70

Tyres £1042.74

AA £392.00

Tax 631.25

Misc £399.00

I have completed approximately 36000 miles during the 4 years & 1 track day getmecoat

The breakdown of the costs by year are as follows:

2004 £5262.72

2005 £1150.72

2006 £4353.12

2007 £1859.06

2008 (to date) £6246.77

I imagine this is fairly typical of Cerbera ownership. A lot of costs in the first year getting the car up together then 3 years of relatively trouble free and cheap(ish) motoring. (The higher 2006 costs were mainly due to converting to 18” spiders)

Also note during ownership I have installed an ECU chip and changed some of the interior but apart from that the car remains original (which is what I want).

The large costs in 2008 are mainly due to an engine rebuild. This amounts to almost 30% of the total costs. The rebuild also included new heads and new manifolds. So I can look forward to another 70,000 miles of Cerbery.

For a car of this performance I suggest 54p per mile (excl fuel) is very good. Without including the recent rebuild it would have been 38p per mile. If I’d have been through say 2 cars of similar performance over the last 4 years then I wager including depreciation the costs would have been much, much more.

So will I ever sell the car? To be honest no I don’t think I ever will. These things get under your skin. How many times do you see on this forum Cerb owners sell up and then buy another a few month/years later. Often after buying another TVR.

So I look forward to another 4 years of motoring (but this time the value of the car will be apreciating-I think)

Sounds very high, but when I have a quick tally mines around the £12k mark plus a few grand I've probably forgotten about.

Interesting figures but, bang for buck, a cerb beats a Thai massage during happy hour.

Not disagreeing, it's a lot, but it would be interesting to see how much other cars in the cerb's league could be run for, over say 5 years. In most cases the depreciation would more than cover it I expect. At least, that's how I justify it to myself so please don't disillusion me smile
Or tell the wife hehe

Hmm, just checked my profile and I show £17,536 for 42 months ownership, everything included. And I didn't really drive it much...

My conclusion is you should rag the arse off them to get your money's worth hehe

If you pay between £10K and £15K for a Cerb now and spend on average £5k a year in repairs but see very little depreciation (if any) you are no worse off that if you bought a Boxter for £30k and 4 years later it is worth £15K as you will have had some nice big bill from Mr Porsche UK for servicing over that time.

The plus point of Cerbera ownership over the Boxter is the lack of hairdresser jokes.

As has been said taking into account depreciation it is less than a boxster. With the added bonus that we don't have to drive a boxster.

Anyway the sun is shinning so I'm off to put some more miles on. driving

Eh try nearly £40,000 in over 4 years and that was just fcensoredking about with modifications hehe

From memory I got extremely lucky with the servicing side of things and it was about £1,500 per annum max.

Still the best money I ever spent.................. So far! biggrin

Well Lads and Lasses, i have to say that these costs fill me with horror.
I have had my Cerb for 2 & half years and done 15k miles. Not a lot i know, but it is not my only car. That said they have been fairly hard miles for fun if you get my drift i.e. Les mans last two years out of view of the local plod etc. She is due for a major service now granted but the total cost of ownership is no where near that indicated above. My spend is as follows;
Car(2003) bought by me Nov 2005
June 2006 interim service and some warranty work: £200
Nov 2006 major service including consumables (brake pads)MOT: £1000
June 2007 interim service and rear spring seat, MOT, 2 tyres, HT Leads: £600
This year allowing for major service, 2 tyres & new starter and battery MOT cracked manifold: £1700.
Insurance & TAX for 3 years: £2500

Total cost £6000
