Im struggling to connect my laptop to the ecu, any tips?
Ive installed the software and have a usb adaptor which is installed but when i try and connect it says no connection....i only want to familiarize myself with it and perhaps have a play with the map on startup as the revs are a little low.
I used to use VAG COM on the golf 4motion but its been a while.

Sorry if this is stuff you already know... but...

If you're using a USB connector in place of a dedicated serial connector (most laptops now don't have serial) then you have to allocate it a COM port. Some laptops assign the mouse or scratchpad a COM port for some reason. Best to assign your adapter it to one which is as high as you can... COM4 ought to do.

If you're still having problems, I have one we could try. I've been using Emeralds for a decade and I've come across a few USB adapters which it doesn't like. No real reason I could find though.

Loz, I'm not actually working at the mo. If you need to pop over one day during the week, I'd be happy to make coffee and play with a number of laptops at my disposal, and yours and my cables.

emerald do a usb/serial adaptor .. its not expensive and is apparently the most stable once theyve found so far. I just bought it direct from emerald though it's a normal off the shelf adaptor.

Looks like I'll be not working for some weeks, unless someone commissions sa project out of the blue. Welcome anytime, but you better call first to make sure I'm not in B&Q (where I appear to spend most of our income at the mo). smile

I've noticed most serial to usb devices seem to be funny about using large com port numbers, my laptop often assigns numbers as high as com47. When using with the Race Technology DL-1's, Emerald ECU, and Innovate LC-1 controller, all of them refuse to play ball unless I re-assign it to something below 10. I usually just force them to go on com3 even if it's 'in use' which seems to work just fine - haven't had any issues so far!
