Hi all

I have just fitted new cats yesterday, had the car on the stands for a day or two, put everything back together and went to go for a test drive.. the car starts and then immediately dies.

The problem is with the throttle - I am unable to push the accelerator down more than a centimetre. The centimetre I can move the pedal I can see that the throttle cable tightens but I can not push further on the pedal to move the rod and the cable pulls.
So it seems the pedal and cable are connected, not snapped. But why would I now be able to move the pedal any more? Any ideas would be massively appreciated.

Supposed to be picking a girl from work up soon :'(

Hmmm, if there's nothing obviously stopping the pedal from traveling in the footwell, then it must be something either at the throttle butterfly end, or in the cable itself. Throttle cables are a common problem with cerbs, but they tend to snap rather than anything else. Have you taken the scuttle cover off to have a look see at the throttle butterfly linkage?

The panel you need to remove is the one directly in front of the windscreen- presumably you would have taken it off when you had a look at your clutch fluid reservoir? Its just two screws either side of the car then it should lift out (just watch out for your washer pipes. Hopefully it should be fairly obvious afterwards whats preventing the linkage from moving.

Sorry yes I have removed that. Managed that part myself lol. Looking at it now the throttle cable has definately not snapped otherwise it would not get the slight tension when I press down on the pedal. Just won't go any further :S

I don't know what else can cause this prob a cerb.. surely it's just a cable connected to the pedal and its pretty much that simple?

Is it possible to move the throttle linkage directly (ie with your hand) ?

Sorted. Ignore me. Throttle cable had dislodged itself before it connects to the throttle rod and therefore slightly less tension. No idea how that happened but just spotted it and problem resolved. Panic over!

Thanks for the super quick replies though matey. Much appreciated.

No bother. What are cerbs for anyway if not for driving and (trying to) impress the ladies?!

lol smile

What a stupid problem though. How the throttle cable could move I don't know!

Anyway, got it going obviously, and it did the trick smile
