Chartwells are only straightening the chassis. After that it'll come back to our workshops where our bodyshop chaps will rebuild the front end and paint it. Doing it that way saves a ton of money.
Ah, I see, didn't know you had your own bodyshop.

Makes sense now! biggrin

Sorry to hear. frown

Simon, can I request you post a rebuild diary on here (unless Evo are planning on running this)?

+1 , a thread diary for this car would be superb if you have time.

SG54 is a bit of a 'Christine' I'm starting to think; doesn't matter how hard you try it will not die.
But it does seem to be turning into 'Triggers Broom'.. wink
But keep it going.. great read.. and I too turned straight to the page upon opening evo this month..

+1 for a rebuild log, I would love to see the technical aspects of jigging the car etc..

Sad to be reading this. I remember seeing the car in the centre of Leeds when 6th Gear were doing a promotion. Immense presence! I guess a car like this with massive miles and plenty of stories to tell is like an old mate. Seeing a pic of SG54 parked on a campsite with one of the door mirrors being used as a convenient tying point for a washing line, for example, gave me a chuckle - one of many moments punctuating its characterful life story. A car like that has to be restored - I'll add myself to the long list of people who'd be fascinated to see a rebuild blog.

Sorry to see the pics in Evo, glad your sorting SG54 out though, always enjoy reading about the old bus, and it would be a crying shame not to put her back on the road!

Simon I never knew you posted on here, & yes of course it would be of interest!

Your car is like part of the family, & no matter what evo run, it's still the car I look forward to seeing in those pages each month.

Would be very interested to see a rebuild thread, although it is a shame it has to be rebuilt.

Sad news indeed cry

I remember a while back when I was on the A38 going past Burton Upon Trent in my new Mk 5 Golf GTi.

I was really happy with my new purchase....... then SG54 flew past me and I thought DAMM, I need to set my sights a little higher hehe

Saw the car a few miles later at an Antiques dealer near Swinfen Hall and I thought to myself.....well..... I bet he won't be able to get a chest of drawers in the back like I can winkhehe

Please create a thread on the rebuild Simon, I would love to know how you go about bringing it back together and good luck with the rebuild! thumbup
