Hi guys, I'm a big lurker on this section mainly because it helps me think positive and aim high, but never posted much....

It was my 21st birthday last week, and as a present from a good friend of mine he just told me that his newly acquired Maserati was mine for a week. He's living in London and hasn't actually seen it let alone drive it since he P/X'd his BMW. Anyway, £50 worth of unleaded was also thrown in, and it was mine for a week. I did plan on trying to preserve the fuel a little bit, not really wanting to blow £50 every day. Sadly the fuel light was on the next morning frown It's currently taken £150 in the 4 days I've used it, and I've only just discovered the sports button makes it sound even nicer, probably because it drips fuel into the exhaust on downshifts....I can see the MPG going down even more.

Now I'm not a massively clued up Maserati man myself, nor do I think the 4200 is the most beautiful thing in the world but I am really really coming round to the general idea of the thing. The interior, considering it is coming up to its 10th birthday is brilliant, it doesn't look very dated at all, and I do spend quite a lot of time in newer supercars. The exterior of the car is in very good condition, having only done 44,000 miles in its time it has obviously been well cared for, previously being stored in an air chamber sort of confirms this.

The engine is just brilliant, and the flappy paddle just enhances the whole occasion. As mentioned, I have driven some other stuff (DBS, Supersports etc) but never really pushed them, at all. But obviously I have had the chance to get used to this one. I have by no means driven it hard, especially in corners, but as soon as I see the 'Happy Signs' (National speed limit) I can help myself but to drop it a few gears and let it go, and the sound track of the V8 is just aural pornography, even in the pouring rain I can't help myself but have the windows open.

My daily is a Clio 197 Cup, and I've only ever owned hatchbacks and I really struggle to get comfortable with driving anything other than small cars hard, but I'm gradually getting used to going into corners faster than walking pace haha, I daren't keep my foot in during corners yet! The torrential rain we've got up here isn't really helping the situation, but is keeping me sensible!

I did 150 miles on the motorway yesterday and it just munched them up with ease, fuel consumption improved from 10.9mpg to, erm...12.9, and that was sitting at 65 most the time behind a friends new pick up! It was very comfortable and so easy to drive...

I've still got 3 days left on the policy so I'm hoping to get a bit more into the Dales if it stops raining! I will probably insure myself on it again at some point, but it was only really taken in P/X so it will probably be getting sold soon frown

Some photos for you all to look at biggrin

That fuel consumption sounds very low, particularly for the motorway @ 65mph.

While I've been known to drive mine like an old man on occasion, I do occasionally give it a good run out and I've never seen anywhere near 12...I think the lowest was 15-16mpg. Best I've had recently was 21.5mpg on a trip German/Italian motorway trip....which frankly amazed me! 10-12 ay 65mph though sound low.

I struggled to average more than about 15mpg on mine. It might have been a tad higher if I didn't have a 10 min drive out of London before hitting anything even resembling a free flowing road :/

Oh dear, never nice to see.

How bad is it? The body doesnt look terrible, but what about the mechanics? Hopefully it gets straigheted out quickly. If he's after parts to do an economical repair, he could do worse than ring David Askew.

He had just set off from some lights, and was still in first gear at about 15-20mph, and the two lanes merged into one and he (obviously new car, wasn't entirely sure of the size) just clipped the back wheel, it sent him to the left, and he corrected it by steering right, jumped back up the curb you can see in the photo into the railings

It was collected and taken to a garage, and even the cosmetic work (new bumper front and rear, wheels, rear quarter panel + paint + other little bits) takes it above the cost of an economic repair - So in other words, he's waiting to get a payout!

He's gutted obviously, he's a good driver and it was just a stupid mistake/lapse of thought and it ended badly! But, he's fine and unhurt (ego a tad bruised) which is the main thing

Not good. Sounds like you might have had more use of the car than your friend.

That is a shame, surely he can buy it back from the insurance company and get it repaired
