On the way back from Le Mans on Sunday, me and RacingPete spotted this 10- plate Diablo

We managed a brief chat with the owner who told us that it remained unregistered for the last 8 years or so until he recently bought it and registered it.

We're really curious to know the story behind the car, and I wondered if anyone knows about it?

Here is the website http://www.v12diablo.co.uk/

Pete asked him about the car, and he told a complete fib!

This is the problem I've always had with replicas. If you buy one and make it look as real as possible then someone will eventually ask you if it's real. Then you have a dilemma, you either say “yes it's real” and spin them a huge and complex lie which no doubt will eventually be found out leaving you looking like an absolute tool!

Or, you tell the truth and say it’s actually a replica at which point you’ll probably be greeted with “Oh! Em well..it’s...emmmma nice fake”.

It really is a lose lose situation!

When people make replica car's i presume they need to notify the relative authorities i.e. DVLA etc but i've searched this reg on a few and its showing as a genuine Diablo VT rather than a replica?.

In my defence, we passed it on the autoroute and I was driving. I did say that something wasn't quite right (hence taking the pic) and Pete asked the question to the driver when we saw it later in traffic.

Here endeth the defence hehe

I also understand how the car is registered

DVLA database shows:
Vehicle: EU10AHA
Details: YELLOW LAMBORGHINI DIABLO VT

Lifted from the website for the car http://www.v12diablo.co.uk/

website said:
The new owner will therefore have the honour of driving the first V12 Diablo VT 6.0 replica in the UK, as well as having their name first on the log-book. The car will be registered as new, not an age related plate or a dreaded 'Q' plate.

So what was his demeanour when he was spinning you his yarn? Sounds like a bit of a sad thing to do if you ask me. Did he know who he was talking to?! Or do you not give it the 'do you know who I am?!' in public? hehe

RacingPete asked him as I was driving, and we were in slow traffic about to get onto the ferry. He only had a minute with him before he run back to the car but apparently he told the story with a straight face.

Considering this car is registered as a real Diablo with the dvla Et al perhaps the owner isnt aware that its a replica (although i would find that difficult even the best ones have glaring differences).

Sorry? £80k?????????????????????????????? eek

Why on earth would you spend that much on a replica, you could have a real one for not much more: http://pistonheads.com/sales/1046002.htm
