Where can I find some unbiased advice on which Ferrari to go for?
I am looking at a late 348 or early 355.
I prefer the look of the 348 but some people hint that it is more unreliable than the 355. Other's say it is ok to go for one of the later 348s (94/95). Using the same argument of models getting better as they go through their production life, does buying an early 355 make sound sense?
Whichever model, it must be a Spider. RHD preferred but not essential. I have no problem but the wife might not be too comfortable driving a LHD in England.
My budget would be c £35-40k.
I know about Ferrarichat but I cannot get onto it as the firewall blocks 'chat rooms'.
Are there any other Ferrari sites or, a back door into Ferrarichat?
Any info gratefully accepted.

just get that black late 348 spyder (RHD) in the classifieds and make me hate you forever 
- I NEED THAT CAR. Its absolutely stunning. For your budget you are unlikely to find a decent 355 (even LHD) but you can get a later sorted 348, and a RHD one at that. The earlier 348's are the ones sometimes complained about, even though many reported trouble free motoring with these early ones too.

How about this one from UK FOC's website? you will have a job finding a RHD 348 spider as very few were imported into Uk, maybe 60.

Absolute cherished example stored in heated garage, only occasional use, 2 previous owners, probably the best 348 Spider currently available. Any inspection positively invited. That sounds interesting Tony, though the low, occasional use only, mileage is a bit of a worry. I'd prefer one that had been driven.
Schnozz - I know, I know... it is very tempting and looks mint and, although I could get it tomorrow (in fact Vicki even suggested I go and have a look at it!) ... would I be rushing into things without doing enough homework?

well as has already been said, very few RHD spyder 348's out there - even less in blue.
I want one exactly as per the one for sale. Black with cream leather
Ninja_Eli's black 360 spyder was the one that did it for me and since then I have wanted one badly. Blue ones are pretty rare even in TB/TS form. There is a nice (and cheap) navy TB for sale on autotrader down west sussex but its a LHD. Its either £23k or £24k though - cheapest 348 on autotrader at the moment. Almost went and looked at it saturday but ended up having a long lunch with Bridgdav and Mrs Bridgdav so didnt have time. It has 355 wheels on it too which look good.

erm, might be royal blue then. Dont honestly know. Do an autotrader search for 348's and its the cheapest one. the pic on autotrader isnt that great but if you take the link to the dealers website there is a slide show of the car

I have seen 348's in
gunmetal, flat grey, argento, black (pearl), black (flat), rosso, burgandy, chiaro blue, mettalic mid blue, giallo, pasel yellow (yeuch!) white and aubergine(!) (and I'm sure there will be a few green ones out there too..) white looked pretty good!

I wouldn't worry too much about low mileage , the car has Full Ferrari history. My '96 355 Spider had 6 k on it with the orig. owner when i bought it in 2001.

Schnozz - i was talking to Kenyon last week and he mentioned that he thought Flash had a Ferrari now? or has he still got the Masserati?
Having looked in the Auto Trader and on the Ferrari Owners Club classifieds I'm even more confused.
Prices seem to range from £25k to £40k, all for cars of a similar age, 91-94. All seem to come with full history and fairly low miles, ranging between 16 and 35k ish.
Now I can see why TVRs of a similar age can vary by 2, 3 or 4 grand, but £25k difference is a hell of a lot!
Even though the one I first saw looks immaculate, £39,950 is right up at the upper limits. I have only seen two more expensive and one of those was a '95 and the other was from a dealer.
I am now thinking that a fair price for a standard '94 Spider, with less than 30k miles and full history in A1 condition may be nearer £33-35k instead of £40k.

from the research I had done I would say £32k - £35k was about right. The RHD TB and TS's are around the £27 - £32k mark with the spyders fetching that little bit more.
edited to add - you have to remember the RHD sypder is still very exclusive so you there isnt much to compare when pricing these cars - might go somewhere to explaining the vast difference.

There is nothing worse than a bad ferrari.Neglect is a sad,sad thing to see.Personally,one for 24,which is the absolute bottom end of the scale,is highly unlikely to be what you're after.Go and look at 10 and see the difference between a well looked after one and one that hasnt been.Think about the price later.A good example can be driven with confidence - a cheap one is a huge worry because you never know what costly repair will be over the next hill.
I see you have one Nick, am I right in thinking you got it in March? If so, do you mind me asking how has your experience been so far and how far afield did you have to look, best places to look etc?
