* Safety Recall - Maserati *
Discussion
Received a registered letter from Ferrari Maserati UK this morning, with a recall notice issued. Not sure if this affects the 4200/QP also, or only the 3200. Best to contact your dealer if you have not yet received your letter.

During ongoing quality assessment, it has been discovered that the steering rack sub-frame may develop a crack in the area of the two fixing points. Subsequently this could result in the steering rack becoming loose and a reduction of vehicle control. Potential early symptoms noticed by the driver could be vibrations, noise and unusual felling through the steering wheel. Maserati has therefore decided to conduct a Safety Recall Campaign in order to affect modification to the sub-frame.
As we consider this to be a potential safety risk it is very important that your vehicle is checked without delay. We would therefore ask you to contact your Official Maserati dealer as soon as possible to make arrangements for this work to be carried out.
This work will of course be carried out free of charge and your Official Dealer will ensure any other outstanding campaigns or product updates are carried out at the same time.

Did they indicate which chassis numbers are affected?
I've just checked VOSA's site, where all recalls are recorded, but this must be too hot off the press even for them. FWIW you can check all make/models on link

Hi Nigelo
I rang Head office on : 01753-878-700 and a Kind Lady who took the call took the time to enquire on my behalf by taking the last 5/6 digits of my chassis number and then I received a call confirming that my car was not in the Recall List.
Hope this is of help Nigelo.
Kind regards
Pete
Spoke to Maserati UK today on the number that Maser3200GT kindly provided and it appears that ALL 3200GTs are affected. I specifically asked for the starting chassis number for the recall and was told just 3 digits (122 or 123 = ZAM....000122 or 3) which implies a very early '98 built since most 3200s actually use the last 4 digits.
The young lady could not give me any technical details other than it affects the steering and very surprisingly confirmed having sent a letter to the original Owner which still showed current in her database - My records show this Owner sold it (a late 2000 model) on early 2002 and therefore there may be many Owners is the same position as myself who have not received a letter but should have - Simply call Maser UK and they will update their recs and send you a copy of the letter.
A further call to Service Manager, Glen at Lancaster, the main dealers in Colchester, Essex, (0870 413 7391) today confirmed that all 3200s are affected and the work involves removing the steering rack and dropping the subframe to allow the rack mounting brackets to be strengthened by welding. It cannot and should not be left as safety is involved.
I mentioned the database problem to Glen and he is happy to help any 3200 Owner with or without the Maserati letter - Just mention Piston Heads when calling.

This is Interesting as having spoke with Head Office they have informed me of a different story.

Another call is needed I think.
Well the updated is that the Recall is for all 3200 as per Nigelo's post.
The reason some owners have not received the letter is that the database is not updated regularly.
Give your dealer a call ASAP.

OK update as promised.
Spoke to friendly helpful dealer as per usual -
Dealer : "recall affects all 3200's whatever age / type and requires a small update. Car should be perfectly safe to drive until we can fit you in sir."
Me : "Good - because I was doing 155 in it at the weekend"
All booked in with a minimum of fuss. Dealers are trying to get the letter re-worded as the way it's put they have had hundreds of calls cocerned about the safety of the car - apparrently there is nothing to worry about at all.
