Can anybody recommend a sports exhaust for a carb driven Ferrari 308??

I've heard bad things about Capristo so have ruled them out and nothing but good things about Tubi but can't justify the price. Any help on anything in between would be appreciated!!

Ansa??

I have a Quicksilver on my GTS QV - sounds great and being freer flowing, allegedly gives 15 bhp more - not that I'd ever be able to prove that! Circa £1k new - I picked mine up nearly new for half of that

I have an ANSA on my carb'd 308 - it has been on the car for probably 15 years and is giving good service. It doesn't sound like a screaming banshee but I would feel a fraud if it did sound like a 355...
Lots of discussion on the merits of ANSA here:

Auto Italia & the FOC Concours are coming up in the next few weeks - I intend to go to both. You are welcome to have a look & listen then.

Thanks guys, some good options there, and quick responces too!!!

I have seen a nearly new Ansa but may wait until the FOC concours to have a listen to the different types. Pat H will you be there? I have a sports exhaust at the moment, which is good for long cruises and sounds ok, but it would be nice to have a little more power & high rev noise.

I have driven a 328 with an Ansa.

It played the same kind of tune as the exhaust on my 328, except that it was a lot quieter.

The exhaust note on my car is probably too loud for most people. You have to make a conscious effort to keep the noise down in built up areas. At a constant 70 or 80mph it is not too instusive. On balance, I am pleased with it.

If it makes more power than the standard offering, which surely it must, then I can't honestly tell. The main advantage is that it weighs an awful lot less.

When and where is the FOC concours?

Pat,

Do you know how the sound of your exchaust compares to others that are available, I have a "sports" ssteel exhaust on mine and its too quiet really, so I'm trying to decide what system to upgrade to. You have obviuosly done a lot of research, so would be grateful for your thoughts.

FOC Concours is on Sunday 2nd July.
Its usually at a country estate of some description around Oxford or Northampton.
I'm not a member of the FOC so I will need to find out the location in due course via the grapevine...

Log on to FerrariChat and do a forum search for 328 sports exhausts.

Don Pembleton seemed to have a reputation for good quality at a sensible price, so I rang him up and we had a long chat. He builds them to order and will knock together pretty much whatever you want. I asked for a noisy one and it is certainly that...

The only aftermarket exhaust I have directly compared mine to was an Ansa, which was lot quieter.

The exhaust on my 328 sounds pretty much like the 348 that you can listen to here.

That one is, of course, a Tubi. But the sound and the volume are similar.

It is a very raspy exhaust, which opens up into a full blooded howl as you get past 6000rpm.

If you are not too concerned about it being too loud, then get Don to make you one to the same spec as mine. Unless you can pick up a second hand Tubi from somewhere, then I can't see you finding a better exhaust for the money.

Let me know if you find out. I let my membership lapse, so had the date but not the location. Would be very interested in hearing all your exhausts to compare.

As soon as I know - you will know
Even as a contented ANSA Exhaust man, the exhaust Pat describes does sound tempting...

the note from a carb'd 308 is totally different from the later FI equivalent (i, QV & 328)... you really need to listen to one on a carb model.

do you really wish to "drown" the superb growl from the nearby air inlet duct ? .... naaah, leave it be, would be my advice.

You could well be right.

Anybody going to the Super Car Sunday at Gaydon. Another oportunity to compare the exhausts, but as f308 man says, the car has a superb induction noise.
