So what are the options for slightly fruitier rear boxes? I've read that the Tubi is too loud??

Anyone here got a Tubi or Larini etc fitted to their Coupe?

Thanks

Tubi are too loud for regular use (and overpriced), Larini are quieter but a bit tinny sounding for my taste. I went down an alternative route when my OEM's went at the inlet joint. Gave both back boxes off and gave to a welder mate who took the baffles out the OEM's and the made new skin's out of stainless. Total cost........ a few pints and £20 quids worth of stainless sheet.
Result (apart from saving several £100.00's) sounds normal when idling then comes alive at higher rpm.

3200gt's plan sounds like a good 'un - I've had a set of QuickSilvers on since Xmas, and all good - superlative build quality (too nice to be hidden, but sparkles through the rear spoiler), competitive price, fast/friendly service. The sounds great, and seems to have bedded in to be just right after what seemed a bit loud at first

There are some cheapish SS back boxes being advertised on ebay at the moment. Hard to say what the quality is like without seeing them, but they do sound pretty good (there's a 10 meg movie download of a set fitted to a 3200GT).

Tubis' sound fantastic - loud but not too loud, if you think
differently you are definately wrong.
If you're planning on being up near Yorkshire let me know and
I'll let you make up your own mind.

tubis sound fantastic. a real deep burble at idle and on throttle sound super BUT most importantly is that the droon doesnt flood the cockpit. i removed the rear boxes and ran without them to see (hear!) what it would be like with straight through pipes as favoured by the yanks and dear god, it sounded awful.

I'm sure he would, but I let him do it as mine is a third car so didn't mind the 3 months it took to get his ass in gear. So if you know a reliable competent welder and your not relying on it as a daily user just get hold of some sheet stainless and beer vouchers.

I'm in Somerset, about 20 miles from Bristol.

Thinking of Tubi, anyone know the price for a Coupe and where to get them - my dealer has offered to source and fit but I didnt ask for a price yet.

Err...

you can't just quote a bit of what I said,
it was supposed to mean Tubi's sound great
and come and have a listen/ spin in mine
to confirm that... nothing sinister intended

Is that fitted or just to supply the exhaust?

I thought it would be about £25 to have them fitted
but fitting involves taking off the wheels and something
else, it took 2 guys over an hour to do and the garage
stung me for almost £200 !!??

You need to take off both rear wheels, innner wheel arches. All the bolts are easy access but as they get hot they will be coroded and difficult to get undone. Make sure you have spares as the 3 on the joint will probably shear.
All that is relatively easy compared to getting the new ones aligned correctly to the hole in the rear spoilers.
They look naff if they are put on skew-whiff.

That was the main reason for not doing it myself, because I wanted
them to be done properly, I once saw one where it wasn't straight and
it had started to melt the rear panel.
And I couldn't be a**ed doing it myself
