Ferrari lends 612 to the law for relay event

Expect to see one of these in your mirrors on the M25? No, of course not – it’s the latest publicity stunt featuring a supercar dressed in the colours of the law, but we think it’s pretty cool anyway.

This 612 Scaglietti HGTS will lead the British leg of the 60th anniversary relay that starts in Belfast today and will end in London.

The relay is part of the celebrations marking Ferrari's 60th anniversary. The event began on 29 January 2007 in Abu Dhabi and has already visited the Middle East, China, Japan, North America, Spain, Portugal and Holland and will involve over 10,000 Ferrari owners and their cars of all ages.

Apparently, the cars are ‘symbolic bearers of a specially commissioned relay baton adorned with 60 badges symbolising the most extraordinary events in the Marque’s 60- year history’. British fans can follow the tour on-line by visiting www.ferrari60relay.co.uk with daily updates and pictures.

Sadly for the Officers who’ve volunteered to drive the 612 during the relay, Ferrari has already arranged for the cars' collection after the event - and the swift removal of the stickers too no doubt...

So it says that Ferrari are taking it back right after the event but what would happen if whilst driving the car the officers got like a really important call** and had to like.. you know, act on it... would it be ok to like... you know.... go for it and use the car... would only be fair really

**Say Cat stuck in tree maybe 100miles away down some really challenging roads

Of all the supercar police cars over the years, this is one of the lamer ones. Not a whole of effort gone into that, and the stated aim of promoting hands-free phone driving is as unsexy as you can get. I prefer the 250 GT (number 9 in the list below): a Fez the fuzz actually did use back in the 60s.

My friend managed to blag that car (without the livery) together with a F430 Spider from Ferrari UK to use on the Beujolais run this year.

When does the relay leave Exeter and travel up to Winchester ?

The website at www.ferrari60relay.co.uk is all show and graphics without any details.

hehe

Maybe if the fuzz had more of these, they wouldn't get quite as upset when you blast past in your own exotic/ performance car. driving

After all, no way they can look you in the eye and say "no, I have never been tempted to NAIL the gas on my Ferrari 612 Scaglietti .."

Yeah, right mista officer! rolleyes
