Hello all.
I currently own two Lotus Esprits. One of them is about to be upgraded.
These are my choices:
1. Murcielago, brand new, here in Australia it's A$600k. It loses as much as A$200k in it's first 2 years, regardless of mileage. I can't buy a used one as I want it orange, and there is only 2 other orange ones in the country and the owners are not selling. So it has to be new.
2. Gallardo - it's 'only' A$399k , but I am thinking if I am buying a Lambo, it has to have the doors swinging up. The price difference between the Gallardo and Murcielago seems worth it to me, but the Gallardo won't be losing as much $ in depreciation.
3. Diablo VT roadster. They are as low as A$200k now. It has to be a roadster as I am a 280lb, 5'11 bodybuilder, as my head hits the A pillar/roof in the Diablo coupe, so it has to be roofless. It never rains where I live, so that's not an issue.
4. 360 Spider. While all the others only have a waiting period of months, the 360 is 3 years. The thing is, a brand new 360 spider is A$389k. A used one, no matter how old or how much mileage, cannot be bought for less than A$410k, due to the long waiting period for new ones. So this one makes huge sense financially, but since when have we been buying cars like these because it makes sense financially?
I am familiar with all these cars, as I have raced my Esprits against them all, although I haven't driven any of them. Sat in all of them though.
Whichever car I will get, will be driven around 8k-10k miles per year. Which ones will be a nightmare? Which ones will be enjoyable?
I have owned a number of Esprits over the years and they all have been used as every day cars, and they have never left me on the side of the road and they never cost more than just normal maintanance. I am looking for the same kind of reliability in whichever choice I will make.
I also had a Mondial and that never had any issues either.
Any input would be appreciated, especially from owners.
