Anyone compared e-gear to R Tronic?
Discussion
Having previously owned an 08 model G with e-gear, I am considering a look at an R8 Spyder. Does anyone have any comparative experience of the two gear systems that they could share?
Maybe also a comparison of the revised version that I believe hit the 560 against the R Tronic also?

I know the actuation method has changed from a liniear actuator to a rotational helix type on the 560, but they are basicaly the same gearbox.
They are both automated manuals with a single dry clutch, not double clutch gearboxes like DSG / S tronic / PDK / DCT
There really is little differance between 04-08 Gallardo and LP560 apart from software, which one the R8 has I have no idea.
I drove a V8 R8 and it was indistinguishable from my Gallardo e-gear.

Thanks again for your help. Was not sure what the differences were between the 560 and the 08 e-gear I had - just going from memory at the time of launch of the 560 that some on here said is was a much smoother change.
Cheers, Bradders.

Would be interested to know why you are looking at the R8 spyder over say a Gallardo spyder ? Considering one myself but unsure at the moment.Maybe also a comparison of the revised version that I believe hit the 560 against the R Tronic also?

The itch to get a car without a roof has come from buying an R400 Caterham with a mate, and driving it from home to work one morning after blatting around in it over the weekend - was a very refreshing experience. Not refreshing enough to run it all the time, mind you.
So, I started to have a look around, to see what may appeal, and compliment the other cars I have available to drive. Not looking for balls out performance (sub 4 seconds), but something around the 4 to 5 second mark appeals. Never been a fan of Porsche (they still carry a stigma from the '80s to me, whether fair or not), nor Mercs. The other options seem to be 430 or Cally, DB9 (or S), or maybe a Maser. The G Spyder would come after all the others are ruled out, only because I've already kinda ticked that box.
I had actually viewed the R8 as a "more everyday" solution - so this is where I began my search. It was intersting to see both the R8 Spyder and 911 T Cab get a rather hands off review on the TV last night also.
Cheers Bradders.

The Gallardo and R8 are essentialy the same car, if it's a change you're after, which I can perfectly understand, I'd say F430.
However, nothing will feel like proper driving compared to the R400
Haha - know what you mean. Only had a few runs in the R400, before we had to send the engine to Raceline to fix a problem, so it's rapidly becomming a distant memory! Hopefully when I get it put back in, it will be even more special! That's the reason I'm not looking for total balls out acceleration from any new purchase. However, nothing will feel like proper driving compared to the R400
Noted on the recommendation of a 430 - think it's about time to try a few out, and see what I like.
