Ok Simon, perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick. hippy

Text is such an inefficient way of communicating and does lead to misunderstandings sometimes (in both directions, perhaps?)

lots of good stuff I wish I'd said
Quite right Jon, PF is a PH festival and not a charity event. I too find the 2CV's boring and pointless. Doing this on the UK's most boring track doesn't help. I'm coming to PF to socialise with mates and have a good time. I will venture into the beer tent at some point and I will listen to the band but only because they are there. There's comment here that lots of activities have been put on because PHers asked for that. I'll have you know a lot of PHers said 'don't try too hard, we don't want lots of organised events', I certainly did.

Having watched this years plans unfold I find myself wondering if things are changing too much. All we ever wanted was a field to camp in, somewhere to drink and some 'real' petrolhead background stuff like we had at Stratford Raceway. The most successful PF was just that. Will this be my last PF, what a sad thought.

We have acted on a list supplied by and requested from PH based on feedback from last year's event. Sadly, I guess this may well be our ast PF too.

Simon,
I'm sorry your feeling that way. Unfortunatly the old adage applies - you cant please all the people, all of the time.

Personally - i enjoyed the weekend last year, and enjoyed the 2cv race - not that it helps the PF numbers as i'll be out on the bank rather than in the marquee - hence not .

I suppose one problem is that - not everyone on PH is a racing fan. So the racing is of no interest to them, and really would be happier with a campsite being hired for the weekend. While others will go out to watch a bit - or are interested and spend the day watching whats going on.

Last year there were alot of comments about why cant PF be linked up with something like the Britcar 24hr @ Donnington - but then, you already have comments about the relativly quiet 'buzzing' 2CV - there'd be more complaints with the rather louder Britcars. hey ho.

I bet tho - this will be another fun PistonFest which folk enjoy, and i look forward to saying hello accross the security fencing and seeing how the Pistonheads 2CVs cars fair in the race.

LS - thank you. I race in Britcar and the 24 is held at Silverstone. The BRDC may not approve of PH/PF but it is maybe something to consider for the future if it is not to work with 2cv. The problem is that in order to make it work at Silverstone we would need to achieve MUCH higher figures for PF than this year as the costs would be much higher, and I would NOT be prepared to finiance them, as I have done for the past 2 years....................

I'd second the Lord. I've not been to PF before, but good people, beer within walking distance and live rock music pretty much equal the perfect ingredients for a good weekend! I am very much looking forward to it!

I still fancy the idea of the track sessions as well if someone posts up a few more details.

When was it decided that the trackday would have to fund the trackday and race day hire. We didn't pay for the race day last year. I thought Stingray sponsored this event. It appears that the trackday punters are the sponsors this year.

All the tracktime for the whole weekend was booked and paid for by the BARC ,the 2cv racing club has agreed to pay for 2 hours of that time on sunday morning for pistonheads to have some tracktime as we were told it was something that the ph'ers wanted , and going on the projected attendance figures we thought it was something where the club would be able to recoup its expenditure .
It is something which took a lot of sorting out, to run a trackday within an MSA organised race meeting, as we have had to apply for special licenses to be able to do so .
At present the request for ph'ers to have tracktime over this weekend looks like costing the 2cv racing club in excess of £2500 if we carry on down this route .Thats about £25 per person on the calendar ,who's sponsering who?

Sorry to hear that. I know it's easy to say this after the event but it was obvious from the start that PF would struggle this year. PF last year was attended by the hard core PHers who had battled hard for the return of this great event. What we wanted was socialising in the camping area. What we got was cold wet camping and yes that was the organisers fault for holding the event so early in the season. That, along with mind numbing hour after hour of 2CV's. We were used to proper hard core motorsport at PF, big throbbing V8's bombing down the drag strip. 2CV's don't really compare.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the format, who is sponsoring whom, what cars are racing in the background, whether there will be sufficient beer and loud enough music and the odds on us all waking up from a drug-induced stupor on the Monday morning to the sound of duelling banjos to find ourselves enslaved by the locals, the fact remains that we've still not been told the details of what format the track time will take!

I feel sorry for the 2CV club laying out the money*, but as we're less than 2 weeks from the event and we've still got no details, it's hardly surprising that nobody has booked yet! I have been looking forward to having a short blat round Snetterton, and will probably still do so, but until I chanced upon this little bunfight of a thread yesterday evening I was, like most other Pistonfesters I've spoken to recently, working on the assumption we'd been given of booking time at the event itself.

If it turns out that I'll have Snetterton all to myself for 30 minutes, then £40 is something of a bargain! If I've got to share it with 250 other people of varying ability, then I might as well just go for a lap of the nearest ring road and save myself the money! Opposite extremes, I know, but please can I have some more information on which to make an informed decision????

I was the same, I chanced upon it whilst surfing from my mobile!! I even tried sending an e-mail from it so as not to miss out on the track time. Athough I will be in someone elses car, we didn't want to miss out!

This will be my first PF, and from the various banter I have on the PH forums, I am pretty much just looking forward to meeting some of you. I expect a bit of drinking, some light hearted entertainment, and will have a butchers at the 2CV's because they are there. 2 weeks to go people, pack your bags!

Cheers to all those that organise PF, I've organised fairly big events before (although not quite on this scale) and know how hard it is to please all people. You take feedback and try to incorporate that into the next year, but as always, sometimes it's the sheer simplicity of the first that people like. However, you make it what you want. It's the people you're there with that make it the most fun usually.

Apologies for jumping in late to this one

PistonFest is, and always will be a meeting of like minded fellows where beer, tents, banter and bands go hand in hand. That is the backbone of any festival. In fact, I have been stocking up on paint stripper strength lager since Christmas with the sole intention of doing 6 months worth of liver damage over a weekend drink

Simon and the team at Stingray do a great job of organising the whole weekend and kindly allow us to camp at their event. When I met Simon earlier this year I mentioned that I would get itchy feet camping next to a circuit that I wasn't allowed to go and have a play on, so he organsied us some track time. Some people were concerned about not being sure of track time, so we've opened up the option of reserving via email first as well as booking on the day. £40 gets you out there and gives you a full briefing too.

The reservation idea was purely to give you all one less thing to worry about when you arrive- and frankly I want to see as many of us out there (cos it will make a great video for the site!) and you can all see how slow I am driving

Games and footy are at this years event and are there if you want them, don't worry I won't be forcing anyone to join in- but watching the girls footy team should be a laugh!

PistonFest will always be a part of PistonHeads, Ted's tried other venues in the past and we'll look at other formats for the future to try and make it the best we can. For now though it's full steam ahead for 2007, let's pray for sun and make sure you join me and the team at the PH shop/ camping area for a Tesco Value Lager!

E mail me on paul.garlick@pistonheads.com with any comments or questions

Aaarrrgggghhh!!!!!! bangheadbanghead

Is it really so difficult to provide some basic details???? All I would like to know is....

1. Will the sessions be split according to experience?

2. How many cars will be allowed as a maximum per session?

It's not really difficult is it?
