Glad to see the run this morning went well.

Big Brother will get back to you.

(Probably not for a week or so now, I barely have any time to do anything towards this on weekdays!)

Ran most of the route yesterday - great! Only bit Le Frog didn't like was the mile or so of farm road - watch out for the bit through the farm yard itself and a couple of pot-holes just after it. The Frog is dropped over a std Vee and dragged its belly along a fair bit of that section...

Agree iro the bits you do twice - well worth it, especially the bit to/fro the great chippy. Also loved the hairpain followed by the humped bridge - air time!

See you on the 10th of June!

RIGHT - This is an error - what version of TomTom do you use?

From what I've gathered from you and Damien the .itn file isn't loading up the exact same route in different versions of TomTom. Basically, this means I'm going to have to make another .itn with more waypoints to micromanage it into selecting the correct route.

BlackFrog - I'm sorry to hear about that experience, it isn't and won't be included in the run I've mapped out.

Cheers all, await updates...

Er... not quite mate, half the time I'd vanished into the distance and I seem to recall you getting lost and going on a detour to Ashford for a while...

clap

Just joking!

Nice to have met you, mate, as it was to meet Eddie, Derek and Lisa!

Jay, Mine is TOMTOM ONE (version one), ok it has not got the latest map but that should not make a difference. It is running the latest software though.

Yes, they were sent the route file. You'll hear more soon. You haven't missed anything. If I do a mass send of any information, I will post about it here too.

Okay okay, for 90 % of the run then

You were driving quite fast indeed yeah but since Derek and Lisa didn't know the route like you did and were still familiarising themselfs with the lambo they were quiet easy to follow for me.

Untill that long straight part whilst overtaking and trying to keep up this stupid audi got in front of me and didn't bother to move out of the way, not even when there was no traffic on the other lane to overtaking.

So when i came up to that roundabout with the big bushes in the middle i couldn't see which exit you guys took and i went straight on, but as soon as i did i looked to the right and saw you guys just leaving the other exit eek

My exit entered on some main road so i couldn't turn and had to follow it all the way down and back again, but luckily you texted my the routename and where you guys where waiting so i could cath up again.

Well, as least i've seen more of Ashford then the 2 of you

It was indeed a very nice view during the run...

During the actual run it'll probably be fighting over who'll be driving behind it

I intend to be 'tail end Charlie' to pick up any stragglers who may get seperated from their group, so there shouldn't be anyone behind me. Besides, I'll be going so slow no one would want to be behind me anyway. LOL

Hi all,

Does anyone know whether it is possible to convert the TT POI file to csv format so I can upload to a Navman?

Cheers

Andy
To be honest, no, but since i've got nothing better to do at the moment, let's see what google comes up with :

I think this is what you're looking for :

Tomtom - Navman converter

It convert TomTom files for use on Garmin and Navman GPS devices.

Looks good! Ok, so can someone send me a copy of the TT POI file so I can check it out?

Ta!

Andy
Since you are on the list i guess Jay won't mind me sending you a copy, i'll forward you the email with the tomtom file wink

I just need your email adress, so if you send me an email (through my profile) i'll have yours then, and then i'll be able to reply.

Or, if you don't mind, just post it here wink

Actually one last thing, there is a reserve list
Rather than fill it up again for you - what are the chances of a reserve taking part?
I don't mind missing out on the BBQ (got friends who live about 10 minutes down the road) if it means the chance to give the car a decent run out!

One or two have filtered in but the fact is that there is only so large a time window in which we can set off before the traffic builds up. Sending off groups of 12 cars at a time 10 minutes apart for an hour is still not exactly spacing things out much, what would it take over 4 hours for them to catch each other, and in the current climate (mindful of recent gumball events) it would be unwise to arrange such a large event and attract a lot of attention. You may think that you'd be 'just one more,' which would be fine but there are 25 other just one mores too and that's getting silly. Bear in mind the Kent runs last year had about a sixth of this years expected turnout!

E-mail me your details anyway, it can't hurt, and I'll be in touch... wink

Cheers,

Jay

Edit to add - my apologies if that sounded heavy handed at all, as I say, e-mail me and I'll let you know what I can sort out for you

  • *****************************************************************

Ladies and gentlemen,

I'm off to France tomorrow night but I'll be back in Blighty by Sunday lunch time. I'm going to open a can of worms and see what happens in the meantime.

  • *****************************************************************

Some further information on the route:

It is broken up in two distinct halves.

PART 1 -

The run to the first stop. Having tested the run a few times now, I have concluded that we should definitely take the opportunity to have breakfast halfway through. I'll tell you where by e-mail in a few days time. The first half of the run comprises mainly of Kentish country roads. Lambochick's Diablo GT only struck the ground with it's towing eye, which is mounted beneath the front splitter, a few times (I think 3 or 4) along the way. Considering the area in question the roads are very well surfaced however you should keep in mind that it's not 100% perfect, there are some bumpier bits and small dips etc which are largely unavoidable on this sort of route. Anyone in an Elise or similar shouldn't have issues with ride height, though. My point is that particularly low cars might prefer to go slower during the first part of the route.

PART 2 -

The run to the Pub. While not exclusively open, fast and flowing the second half is definitely more suited to those of an Ultima disposition and the like. I would suggest that the more serious cars (you know what I mean, don't be offended) on the run will make up ground on the higher riding cars on this second half, which would pan out nicely and get everyone to the destination at similar times.

These are just my ideas, feel free to make your own minds up, but I think they're quite sensible. Anyway -

ALL ENTRANTS - (including those who have applied as reserves)

Please state the

- EARLIEST TIME you would be able to start the run from the proposed start point

- PREFERRED RUN STYLE - would you like to join a HAMMOND, CLARKSON or MAY group?

If you don't - no problem, you'll get put somewhere on the day, but it might not be what you wanted.
Obviously, those groups suggest 'spirited,' 'average' and 'leisurely' pace in that order.
In no way does your choice of group imply that you intend to speed, in fact while I'm on the subject -

The timings for this drive allow all participants to complete the route without breaking any speed limits at all. Your driving is entirely your responsibility and I personally would not encourage unsafe driving of any kind.

Cheers all, I'l get regular maps out possibly on Monday and then we'll sort out the finer points of group leadership.
BarryJ - I know, sorry I haven't got round to splitting the itn for you! And BlackFrog/DamienCBR, likewise, I'll try to get the more micromanaged itn file dorted over Bank Holiday.

That's it for now - Vive La France!
