Great run guys, thanks Jay. I was really shocked when we heard about the guys in the red Tuscan, one minute they were in my mirror and then a few minutes later we realised that we had lost half the group so we waited at the next junction thinking they just got stuck behind the tractor/trailer thingy only to see Jay on his way back down there. Nightmare but so glad that no-one was seriously injured.

My daughter was pretty much ready to go home after waiting at Rye so sorry for the early departure. Met some great people, with some lovely cars, good spirited driving (yikes in places....wink) and lovely weather too. Thanks for your efforts Jay, hope everyone enjoyed the rest of their day.

Cheers

Andy

PS: Nice pics John, did you HAVE to get such a close-up of all the stone chips??!! wink

Great day behind the wheel. I'm an absolute wreck now - sunstroked, stinking of spilt petrol and still smarting from a wasp sting sustained in the pub beer garden! First class route Jay - I'll certainly be using that first section again.....and again and again!

Glad to hear that the couple in the red Tuscan escaped serious injury too. Bloody Squirrel - it reeked utter havoc!

Great meeting all you guys. Looking forward to another roll-out soon.

Phil

Jay - always a pleasure, mate, come rain or shine wink

Reminded me just how awesome a Lotus Elise can really be biggrin Particularly enjoyed the initial blats with you and Chris in the VX. Picking up the S1 Exige with 310 BHP in Tenterden was a bonus!

Until next time driving

Dropped down in the cob to meet up with a few of you this morning, never seen that car park looking so good.....
Very sorry to hear about the TIV and glad to hear occupants walked away as it were.
Glad to hear rest of the run was uneventful, apart from the odd wasp sting that is !!!!

Hope to catch up with you all soon.

Glad to hear the occupants of the TVR escaped without major injury. From what I heard they were very lucky. That road is very unforgiving of the slightest mistake. Over the years I have known a lot of people who gone agricultural.

Not looking so good for the biker. I wonder what caused his spill.

Other than that an excellent tour of some of the best roads around. Cheers Jay - one day I will actually make the second leg of one of your runs!

Sorry I had to cut and run and couldn't make it to the Woodman, but I was already committed to attend another meet. Some spirited progress was required to get there in time eek

Big thanks to Jay for organising such a good day with a superb selection of roads. Great to meet some fellow PH'ers too. Hope the guy with the Tuscan and his other half are feeling ok.

Totally didn't have a clue where I was going most of the time but luckily we always had someone at the front with Sat Nav so didn't get lost too many times... I still managed to turn the wrong way out of the pub though when I left at the end and not realise for about 5 miles so had to turn back and fly past the pub again paperbag Must invest in a Tom Tom at some stage...

Jay - once again a fantastic run, many thanks for all your hard work and to others involved organising and planning the route. Highlight for me was following you along with the grey Elise and VX along the Military Canal road towards Rye - Christ those things handle well! Also following John in his 911 from Maidstone was a real buzz too

I'm sorry for the guy in the red Tuscan though - hope the're both OK, it must have been a real shock for them, I did not see it happen but by all accounts it did not sound good.

Thanks again Jay

See you all next time

John (Blue Chimaera)

PS - Andy - good to meet you at long last!

Hi all, thanks for all the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the route.

It's a bit of a shame that the weather wasn't with us last week, as the postponement coupled with the Bank Holiday weekend clearly had a massive effect on numbers - after the 65 or so that turned up back in June, I really want to get another big gathering together!

However - Jules and Chris - that was an exceptional blat in the first section. No traffic, fantastic roads, breathtaking views and beautiful dawn weather conditions. What a refreshing start to the day!

The second section was pretty cool too, and then we got to Rye...

Parked up, spent my 80p on the ticket machine, nipped to the lav and didn't even get the chance to do my business before I received a phone call...

"We have a problem..."

Someone had passed an incident, so off I went see what had happened and help in any way I could.

At the top of Military Road, I came across a rather sorry looking TVR. And some damaged fencing. And evidence of the mother of all tank slappers sliding god-knows-how-far along the thin, wet, grassy, tree and sheep littered embankment next to a precarious drop into a canal. Jeeeeeeesus.

The occupants were largely unhurt but for a few cuts caused by the driver's window smashing in on them, but the car looked less than pristine with damage to the driver's side and front end, however the wheels were still in place and the last suggestion I got was that it would be driveable once all the glass had been cleared from the seats.

Apparently, as the driver was pulling in from overtaking a tractor he was faced with an oncoming squirrel. Cue predictable result of the combination of quick steering inputs, rear wheel drive, lots of power and no electronic aids. Unfortunately, the squirrel copped it anyway. Police attended the scene and are treating its death as 'suspicious.'

So then, once the police and ambulance had arrived I left to find my patient comrades in Rye, looking forward to some good, hardy tucker. I got no more than two corners from the Tuscan before I came across a stricken motorcyclist laying across the middle of the road at the end of several hundred feet of skid marks, which initially headed towards the canal but were bounced back into the road by a small grass verge. This was very serious. I called Karim (Medic) and the ambulance crew from the Tuscan incident. From later reports, the biker suffered a number of very broken bones and lost a lot of skin, but wasn't in a life threatening condition.

I hope it isn't too vulgar but I've decided to satisfy public curiosity with these small and censored images. They are all anyone would want to see - the first shows the beginning of the skids and 'x' marks the spot where the biker/bike hit the verge and bounced back into the road. The second shot was taken from the 'x' and the third, although difficult to see from this angle, shows how incredible a job the chopper pilot had to do - with hedges to one side and a canal to the other he had to hover over that 4 feet of verge with his blades clipping the hedges on the other side of the road to allow unloading and loading. Amazing.

The road was closed off and turned into an investigation scene, so after a while waiting to be released from my position between the police blockades I headed back up Military road and worked my way down to Rye again. From Rye, what with all the delays, the run was less than brilliant thanks to all the built up traffic and at Tenterden Jules (grey Elise) and I lost the pack behind us. After waiting a while in Tenterden high street we were about to head off and make our way to the Woodman when an acquaintance of mine in a 310 bhp Honda'd series 1 Exige passed by, so we followed him to the A21 before making our way to the finish. Where the food was lovely, and after an embarassing few minutes looking sheepish around the landlord (who'd been prepared for a somewhat larger crowd) I heard the rumble of a TVR V8, and saw DonnyMac and the rest pulling in. The food was lovely and it was at least a pleasant rest, and great to catch up with everyone after what was an eventful, and very unusual run!

Cheers all,

Jay

Thanks for the report Jay, looks like it was a bit of a nightmare alright. Glad Karim was able to offer assistance, hope the poor guy on the bike is on the mend...

Sorry again about heading off a little earlier than expected, I just wasn't sure what was happening and time was ticking on....I think you passed me actually coming back up to Rye as I was heading back to Ashford.

Anyway, thanks again for your efforts, we should all do it again sometime (every weekend maybe? wink) might see you around "dawn" sometime in Sept., if I can make it anyway...

Cheers

By the way, didn't someone make a videoclip of us lot passing by, i think i saw one of the beamers parked on the side somewhere filming my group when we came of this roudabout somewhere (i think it was about 10 minutes after leaving maidstone).
