As expected, lots more questions, although i think most have already been answered.

If anyone wants to ask more questions we'll do our best to answer them, alternatively you're welcome to pop down to our monthly meeting at the Ace cafe to ask them in person and have a chat to people who have already been on tour to get their feedback.

the next one is Monday may 11th starting from 6pm
thread and details here ;

if you prefer online feedback there was some from another tour we did recently here.

Recently did the Millau/Ventoux Trip...Was due to travel with a friend, but he pulled out due to his job situation, it didn't take me long to get a replacement and more importantly the person who took the place wanted to take his own car very unique looking Cerb. At first I though this was expensive, but when you see the 11th Century Monasteries, modern hotels with Michelin Star restaurants and Chateau's with their vineyards, pools and spas...

Camaro's vs Monaro's biggrin

I have shown different sets of friends the pics from the previous trip and an earlier mention of possible car snobbery, well I took my 2003 R32, but of the two sets of friends who are interested in this trip, one lot has a Camaro, the others a Monaro. In fact if I did not have the R32 ready in time I would have been equally happy to have taken the A3 TDI (OK so this has been on a half-day track day); such vehicles form an important part of these trips as they can act as support vehicles if required. But, driving the roads, admiring the scenery and above all coming back with memories, stories to tell (or not ... WGOTSOT :P ) all contribute to the experience

So I am doing what I can to ensure that a few quid extra here and there does not get in the way of this trip.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww , damn it! I so wish i could afford to go on this and also have a car capable of it! It looks like 9 days of wonderfulness!! Re the price, like has been said you get what you pay for!! This is not a budget rally.

Last year I did a charity rally (The Sucata Run) and it was the exact opposite to this (£250 car!!) and it was brilliant fun driving across France, Spain and Portugal over 4 days! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm must get saving!!!!!!!

Have fun you guys who are lucky enough to go, and be sure to post some piccys!thumbup

Is it too early to request a similar thing but staying in campsites / less swanky hotels around the route, for those less wealthy PHers...?
If you want decent security for the cars and people not complaining than that's about what it costs - I'm organising an 8 nighter to France and Claremont Ferrand in October and the price for car and two people is within
7 euros of this - and no we haven't been fixing the prices - I don't know who any of the guys from Nirvana are and doubtless the opposite applies!
If its within 7 Euros its the same price then.... - check the exchange rate!!
Correct Angus - the exchange rate has moved a bit - 2 people is £2734.00 or, at 1.119 exchange rate 3059 Euros and my trip is 2950 Euros so still pretty much the same!

Sounds great.

I'm planning on doing a fairly similar guided tour through France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, and Belgium, and onto Monte Carlo, through one of the classic car tour companies. It'll be at the beginning of July, which suits me a bit better. Otherwise, I'd have been very interested in this one.

All the best to you, and have a great time.

"have a run up (and down) the Stevio..."

Is that another pass up North, prehaps through some Merseyside council estate?

I think it offers very good value for money, considering the perks such as the lambo tour etc. It'd be worth it for the craic alone.

damn - if only i had a spare £1500 and a car that could cope with 8-9 of pure thrashing hehe

sounds like that will be one hell of a road trip! wish i could go frown
Doesn't need to be a special car to enjoy those roads. We did it a couple of years ago in a £100 Subaru Legacy that had been sat idle in a farmers field for almost 2 years for charideeee.

Down via Grimsel, Furka, Stelvio, Passo Pordio etc. and back via Imola, Monza (15 euros to drive the track), Nurburgring and Spa stopping at Ferrari on the way. Kicking ourselves for not driving to Lamborghini.

I can throughly recommend the drive from Lake Como to Lecco via the miles of mountain tunnels. A Subaru boxer with a rally pipe bouncing off the walls was music I'll never forget. biggrin

Whether it's with this organised trip or another or on your own. Just do it - you will not regret it. smile

It will be run next year as there's nothing like a classic alpine tour, but we've also got other tours in the offing so much as we'd like an early booking (and i've noticed a few offers already)
We'd much rather you took your pick at the time.

nice thing to hear though!!!

you leave Stevie G out of this! biggrin
a merseyside run is a thought...perhaps Bootle to Huyton? wink

better book fast though places are filling up!

I may be wrong as i'm not in the office at the moment, but i believe that out of 20 car spaces we've probably filled about 16 so far although not all are confirmed.

Me & a few other fellow PH's have planned & booked an alpine road trip, leaving 28th june & returning on the 4th July - so far we have:

Jaguar XKR
Porsche Boxster S
BMW M6
Subaru Impreza WRX
Porsche 911

gonna be fun fun fun - we're working on a budget of £1,000 per car (fuel, hotels, food etc....)

We've planned a 1,950 mile round trip via Belgium, Luxembourg, germany, austria, italy, Switzerland & back via the nationals through eastern france........

Route includes loads of passes (including Stelvio etc...) the italian lakes & as many gorges as we can handle......

You don't need a lot of money, just a reliable car & an understanding Mrs...LOL!!

I'm really interested in this. Where do I sign up??? Are there any places left??

Anyway, I'm going to presume an S2000 will be adequate to the task (and it wont be just fezzas and lambos - so I can at least have a stab at keeping up) but could anyone advise a sensible budget for fuel and spends on top of the £1400 per person???

S2K's seem to be disgustingly thirsty if ragged with the roof down at high speed.....

Having done this tour the first time it was run (under a different name), i would thoroughly recommend it. I was running the cheapest car on the tightest budget (Fiat Coupe, tuned but still worth about 3K!) but i loved it. The Sat Nav routes, Mechanic and walkie talkies were not included then, which made the days interesting! Never made it the the Lambo factory as i got so lost! Personally i would say (try to) forget the cost and do it. I suppose it depends on who is on the tour with you, but I found interesting people to drive with, and some stunning scenery.
Personally i am not sure if this tour being so public now is a good thing or a bad thing. These tours need to have as much distance from the Gumball style of tours as possible. While i dont have anything bad to say about Ballers, this tour is more about fun and the twisties than out and out speed. Although from some of the footage shot, some may contest that last statement smile
Ohh, the days are also long, so be prepared to drive ALOT. This may have changed though as i think the length of holiday is now longer. Hope there is a full day in Monaco now, didnt see alot of it frown

My main advice to people considering doing this will be to ensure you have 2 people to share the driving. I did the original of this tour in 2006 and even with a co-driver it was very tiring, but HUGE fun - some hotels we didn't roll into until almost midnight and set off before 9 each morning!! The roads are fantastic and prviding PN have kept a similar ethos then there is no car snobbery. We had Lambos, Porsche, TVR, Fiat Coupe & even an old TR6.
I've also dont the Millau run and again its a heck of a lot of driving packed into a few days. If you want a road trip with lots of time to see places then this probably isn't for you. If on the other hand, you want to drive some of the best roads in Europe with like minded petrol heads and end up with a holiday you'll never forget then I can wholeheartedly recommend it!!

Stevie,
An S2000 will be perfectly fine for the trip,
we had a couple of the Millau tour last month and they were more than adequate.
In fact on the passes they will better for their nimbleness.

Fuel usage, if you assume 200 miles per tank then lets say 15 tanks to be safe.
tolls are about £60
lunches at fuel stops will be say £100
drinking money will depend on you
breakfast, dinner and parking charges are included

In terms of numbers, we're filling up very quickly indeed.

all the single rooms have now gone

we have confirmed bookings with deposits for 14 rooms and provisional bookings for another 3 which only leaves 3 rooms (either twin or double...so sharing with 1 or 2 cars is an option)

you can still book via the website but we strongly suggest that you email/call us as well to confirm what room configuration you're after.

http://www.petrolheadnirvana.com/tours/alpine_assa...

some of the cars booked so far....
Dax Cobra
TVR Tuscan
Ferrari 360
Ultima GTR
Ferrari 575
Ariel Atom
Tvr Cerb (x 2)
TVR Sagaris
997 GT3
Diablo 6

and a few people yet to confirm their vehicles

Hi hahithestevieboy,

An S2000 would be a fanastic car for the tour. It's fast and reliable. I run a few North Wales Tours each year and the S2000 are always in the pack. In fact it's not the car that really counts once you get of the motorways, it's the driver.

Some frieds of my and John's (Ian and Helen) have also booked last night in a TVR Griff.
