Car performed well and the Nankangs were great in the wet once they had a lap or 2 of heat.
Were you using the NS2R's? I was thinking of trying them but had concerns in the wet over the Yoko AD08R's I was on yesterday, really rate them as an all round tyre that holds up in the dry and works ok in the wet.TommyType-R said:
I was on the 11:55 Novice session in the grey civic, I too witnessed how little grip the AD08R's have in the wet so was tip-toeing in the corners till the last half of the session, incredible how much of a hindrance it is having improper tyres for the conditions!
What pressure were you running? It was my first time using them on a wet track yesterday and other than a bit of squirming under braking, I was pretty impressed! I had them at 29psi cold and they were at 34 when I came in after the cool down lap, would possibly try them a little lower next time but they didn't lose grip.Jacko22 said:
What's your GoPro linked to mate for the lap timer. Corner james. Gs etc?
I use Harry's Lap Timer app on my phone, it's well worth paying for! I use the middle priced option and can't recommend it enough, I've now attached an external GPS sensor as it refreshes 10x as often as the internal phone GPS so it's a bit more accurate but you don't need it. I need to get a compatible OBD reader next and it'll also overlay engine data too, it doesn't like my cheap ebay jobby.Leptons said:
You were going well! I'm in the e36 desperately trying to keep the back end in check
Thanks, you were doing a pretty good job of that considering how wet it was! Especially being the first one out without having someone to follow, I did chuckle to myself when the 135 went past you and then immediately span. paulyv said:

Just got home
Once again an excellent day out. Thanks to everyone involved!
Sorry if I held anyone up on track - first time out in the wet.

I was watching from the pit wall, and your track etiquette seemed very good. Once again an excellent day out. Thanks to everyone involved!

We had a chat later in morning, and I agree that discretion is a very good policy when driving a dedicated track car on a wet track for the first time.
It's just a shame the weather was not better, considering the fact that you'd travelled from Belgium.
Had fun out on track yesterday & talking to a few people old and new so thanks to everyone who made it happen. First time out in the wet/damp so I was by far the slowest out there in my session but I tried to get out of everyone's way when I could, sorry if I didn't. The car was very lively but I won't make any excuses for my spin (which was probably the slowest in history) I'm just a poor driver . Feel sorry for the type r driver but it's the risk you take and hope he is alright/had insurance.

Thanks for a great SS as always!

Excerpt from the Yokohama website on AD08R's : "WET TRACTION - Hydroarc Channels cut through water for superior wet grip."I was on the 11:55 Novice session in the grey civic, I too witnessed how little grip the AD08R's have in the wet so was tip-toeing in the corners till the last half of the session, incredible how much of a hindrance it is having improper tyres for the conditions! Guess you would disagree? Haha

Not that I disagree, but that roundabout is slippery at the best of times. Can easily catch anyone out, but in this case it does seem like he just wasn't really able to control the car anyway. He was literally at a racetrack just moments beforehand whereby he could have had plenty of sideways moments due to the weather.
In other news, here's an in car video featuring no roundabouts or badly driven vehicles. Some great cars out there and IMHO some very good driving - more than a few cars were understandably struggling with sub-optimal tyre choice for the cold, wet conditions.

Had a good day despite my white Elise feeling like it was being driven on sheet ice all day. Couldn't believe the difference between the AD08's on a dry track with seemingly unlimited grip compared to the wet track. Was definitely an eye opener being passed by anything and everything!
I'm glad it wasn't just me that felt like that! I've done wetter days at Donington and had more confidence in the car. Ramble said:
I had a lot of fun in the 11:20 session in my diesel estate. The only way I could keep up was with late braking!
I thought it was funny that a diesel estate was passing me so easily.KarlMac said:

Ron, is that you? are you just hanging round Silverstone these days? Will someone please find him a new job?!
It's hard to see from the video, but some of the cars were having horrendous understeer through Copse. And more than a few were experiencing oversteer in Woodcote - perhaps voluntarily in the case of the M3.
Thanks again PH for organising this, I had a really good day, although seeing a few incidents was a big shame
I thought overall the standard of driving was good in my sessions, I kept out of the way as best I could and tried to be patient when others hadn't spotted me or just backed off from some interesting driving.
Yes it's a bit frustrating people going slow in the corners, you catch up quick, then they shoot off up the straight - and rinse repeat for a lap or so
Next SS on track it would be brilliant to have a handful of tutors available IF that's possible ?

Was an awesome morning despite the weather. Was on track with a mate in his M3 supposed to be on at 9 but obviously that got canceled so was on at 10.10, then i think it was 14.10 and 14.35 i think. some seriously fast cars on track including another blue M3 all caged up etc, and a silver megane with redbull stickers all over it.
Shame about the civic but following it on track just before the accident it seemed all over the place understeering then lift off over steer, was told by someone in the pits he was on slicks?!
