Thanks, am hoping its just the auto linkage cable thats bust, Hoping, more like praying. Car is worth sod all so not really worth spending more than £1000 on it to fix any one problem.

Was in the car with Iain (chassis33) in Chester on Friday night, and we smelt burning, like a burnt out electrical circuit or similar. I just pulled the unit out today and one of the big thick yellow channel cables has scorch marks on it, when the unit is switched on, the metal casting on the back of it gets incredibly hot, so hot you just know it can't be right. It still works, but when you jiggle the connectors about, it loses channels. Must be an internal short I reckon.

My car has what i suspect to be a very worn steering rack so should make it down the motorway ok but after a drive today it could pitch me into the hedge at random!
