Hot rod/Custom car show and drag race
Discussion
For the Hants TVRCC region I have proposed that for the July meet we go to the
Thorney Island Car show/Drag race.
The details are on a flyer HERE
You'll also need to fill in the pre-entry form this year due to increased security (it is on an army base)
Find the form here.

I personally found it was the event of the year for 2003 and I went to quite a few events

that looks brilliant!
any idea what the "entry conditions" are for the drag racing? I can see a certain purple cerb wanting a go! (and me -v- your griff to see what the 1/4 mile differences are like between a fast 5 litre Griff and a slow 4 litre chim)
.....and I'll have the pair of you - NOT!
Looks like a plan and a good break from the normal run to the pub - is this a TVRCC thang?
mate - would imagine any car welcome since the event is so diverse anyway. get your arse down there with us and I'll go head to head on the drag strip - loser buys the beers all night. (dont worry mate - it says cheap bar)
cheap bar, 3 nights camping, drag strip, entertainment, a beach.
£15 - bargain

Well it appeared that the entry requirements last year were.
1. do you have a car or bike that operates on a form of fuel?
2. Are you a bit of a loon?
3. If the answers to 1&2 are in then join the queue, burn some rubber and then race!
I'll try and find out a bit more though. I'll also ask about the TVRCC attending as a group if there are enough wanting to attend.
It really was a fantastic event last year. A lot of the cars that were at PistonFest were also there.
What is mad is that there are cars that will make Craigs Cerb look slow and quite normal!
Probably quite quiet too!

drag strip entertainment![]()
Whatever floats your boat mate

Last year I didnt camp and it was still only £3.50 per day and £5 to use the drag strip as many times as you wanted all weekend.
They have proper timing gear and lights too and its a nice long runway.
The people I met all said the beer was dirt cheap and the shower facilities very good as its on an army base. Apparently even the beach was quite nice. I didnt get much further than the loud cars (both in sound and bling) and the various burger vans.
This year definitly camping there though. Good excuse for a real petrol/beer weekend (as if Le Mans isnt enough!)

These are general guidelines for (street car) drag racing in the UK-
Car must be fitted with a seat belt.
Driver must wear a helmet.
Driver should cover as much bear skin as possible, so wear gloves, long sleeve top and long trousers. If it's a hot day most drivers wear shorts and slip into a pair or overalls before you race. This rule is to prevent cuts from flying glass if you roll it.
If you plan to race a kit car with a coolant over-flow pipe you must have a 'catch can' to prevent coolant dripping on the track. Most racers cable tie a beer can to the side of the rad' and run the over flow pipe into that.
Oh yes, and remember to wear a thick skin- you will get called a f*****g hair dresser for racing a sports car at a hot rod event. Don't let that put you off, we're all there to have a good time, and I think it's great seeing a good mix of cars.
Look forward to seeing you all there, I'll come over and say Hi!
