Phoenix Green New year meet?
Discussion

Since there has been no other reply I will respond.
The Phoenix gathering has indeed been continuing although the emphasis seems to have changed towards more modern "classics" in recent years.
However, circumstances have changed this year. The Phoenix closed about six weeks ago due to issues concerning the lease and the licence. The situation is, apparently, somewhat complex and it remains closed.
The several car clubs that used to meet there have found new venues, some temporary, some permanent. I believe that both the VSCC and the MGCC would like to return due to their historic links with the place.
I am not sure how this affects the New Year's Day gathering. My guess is that due to the lack of information many people will turn up on the day, the car park being still open, but what marshalling arrangements and catering will be in place I do not know.
It would be good if anybody who knows more could post here but speculation about the cause of the closure would probably be unwise.

Indeed. The Phoenix has been having some problems. Some friends of ours had organised a big family meal there and were phoned a mere week before the booking to say that they weren't able to fulfill it due to losing their licence.
Fortunately another venue managed to squeeze them in, but only because they were regulars and it was as a favour.
But I digress.
The Cross at Eversely, less than 5 miles from the Phoenix, seem to have picked up on the car meet thing.
John and Michelle are really into their cars and they have Jag meets, Lotus meets, and meets for all cars. I seem to remember some talk of a New Year thing but best bet would be to phone them up and find out.

Hi, i live just down the road from the pub. I drive past it all the time and there are often car meets there. Caterham always have monthly meets there. To be honest i hadnt notice it had been shut. I can easily pull up outside and check if there are any notes on the door saying whats happening. It seems an odd pub as it often shuts for weeks in end.

The Phoenix has reopened and will be holding their usual New Years Day event. There will will be burgers, coffee etc on sale from about 10am. I know that the Morgan club and the VSCC are publicising the Poacher's event and apparently the Morris Bullnoses are going somewhere in Riseley so there are now at least 3 events within a few miles of each other.
The choice is yours...

Just confirming there is a meet at the Poacher on New Years Day as the Phoenix is currently not open for business and we are currently holding meets for the Morgan Club etc. Food and Drink available.

Andy,
Its nice to see a car friendly landlord on PH in the area..do you plan to have meets on a regular basis?&will you be restricting them to Classics?
Steve
In reply to Steve yes we are trying to get various meets together on various dates and will publish them on these forums. At the moment we are holding the Morgan Clubs etc but we are willing to hld any others if you know of them. I personally used to live down the road from the Phoenix and enjoyed the vintage cars which is why I have made the facility available here.
Everybody is welcome and we will be serving soup to sandwiches and burgers as well as all day breakfasts and scampi and hopefully the weather will hold out for a good day.
