OK folks... some of you knew something like this was possibly in the offing... some of you even signed up for an earlier date. However, Friday 7th September is now the date.

The owner of Dunsfold Aerodrome, a keen ex-GB pistol shot, is kindly allowing us to put on an event there that involves: DRIVING... and... SHOOTING!

Various people, including international shooting coaches, will be giving their time for free in order that the day may raise funds for them and team-mates to compete internationally.

I realise a Friday is imperfect but weekends present problems with the neighbours on noise and might jeopardise Top Gear, as well as being the time that pilots like to use he aerodrome to fly. Hopefully will be a sunny one...

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE KEEN TO COME ALONG. Road legal cars only.

Events and costs should be (select from the menu and let me know what you fancy):

1. Entry and Vmax runs (take it in turns for the whole time it's open) on the 2km runway (own car): £99

2. Clay pigeon shooting: £50

3. Smallbore rifle shooting: £40

4. Driving round the Top Gear track: £10 (not all-out unfortunately); can be videoed for extra cost

5. A look inside the 747 used in the Casino Royale movie: £10

6. Driving Jim's new custom-made Caterham-esque sports car round the TG track: price TBC (car not finished yet but give me an idea what you think you'd pay for that)

7. Passenger ride in Jim's new Caterham-style sports car round the TG track: price TBC (ditto)

8. Passenger ride on Corvette Z06 vMax run: "donations"

9. Jim may also be able to lay on a passenger flight in an aerobatic flight (before lunch!) IF any of you say you want to do it (make a bid!).

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU'D LIKE TO COME ALONG ON 7TH SEPTEMBER AND WHICH EVENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO!

Sorry for the delay in replying folks. I was indeed on holiday and have subsequently been under the cosh at work.

Take 9-4 as the base case for times; I'll get back to you with more detail once I've checked with Jim. What more did people need to know?

Hi guys,

I am off to Canada tomorrow to shoot in the World Championships and won't be back until shortly before the event. I will have internet access, but have also asked someone else if he can help on the organisational front. His name is Lindsay Peden, a Commonwealth Games shot himself.

We'll need to take a deposit of some sort shortly and will let you know details as soon as poss. To facilitate Lindsay being in touch, please can you send me your e-mail addresses so I can pass them onto him?

Once again, let me know if you need to know more.

OK all, how do you feel about paying a £50 deposit to secure your place on the day? We'll be rather nervous about no-shows if we can't do something like that. Balance on the day, unless you would rather get it over with now!

Electronically, please put Dunsfold+your name as a reference and deposit the money at account 90077623, sort code 82-69-05 (account name SRA Touring Teams).

If you prefer to send a cheque, let me know and I'll post Lindsay's address.

Directions/instructions later, but I look forward to seeing you there!

Chaps,

The event will go ahead, provided that you all step up! I have passed on contact details to Lindsay (at lindsay.peden@uk.bp.com) for MikeGF, Jmaynard, Bluesatin and Chargerman.

The rest of you do need to get in touch with him (copy me in) if you want this event to go ahead. He and Jim are getting rather nervous about it as things stand! Please can you try and get in touch by the weekend?

Hi chaps,

While I've been away Lindsay has told me that a combination of demand and availability of helpers means he's concentrating the event on the Vmax, led drives of the TG circuit and TG laps in a Caterham-esque car of Jim's, but no longer doing the rifle. A shame, but I hope not too much of a disappointment to those of you on here.

You WILL need insurance. Jim will ask you to sign a waiver. And all he has said to me on noise is that cars must be "road legal".

Sorry not to be the fount of all knowledge on this today but I got back from Canada this morning, am completely out of it and am still catching up myself.

We (GB) won the World Championship BTW. I'll bring my medal if you promise not to drive off with it at high speed.

Lastly, have all of you on here had communication directly with Lindsay? If not, please get in touch with him!

Thanks to everyone who came along for making it an enjoyable day.

For those who know what speed I got to on the runway, I managed an extra 27mph (indicated) last night - a landmark speed, but not on a UK public road, I hasten to add.

John Munn took a lot of photos on the day - I can't quite believe how many - and he is offering to burn a CD for each person for £10 to touring team funds. He says the least impressive set is that of the Mustang (not because of the car), but to help eveyone gauge whether they would like to buy a CD of pics of them/their car, he took the following:

Corvette (Black) - CV06 VET - 50 pics
Matt Corvette (Blue) VV55 VVV - 114 pics (incl kit car driving)
Corvette (White) - FJ07 ZRF - 57 pics
Ferrari 355 (red) - TBZ 355 - 129 pics (incl kit car driving)
Ferrari 360 (Red) ?Steve - W382 RJA - 92 pics
Ford Mustang GT -S222 SWE - 5 pics
James Dallas VW Golf - 125 pics (incl kit car driving)
Jaguar XJ8 (Red) - N20 CHG - 31 pics
Masarati (Blue) - WJ52 JXA - 75 pics
Mazda RX8 (Black) - YD53 YOM - 14 pics
Vauxhall Monaro Silver P40 WOW - 18 pics
Porsche GT3 - Jeff - LG07 VHM - 72 pics
Porsche Boxster - Lindsay- Y398 JGS - 12 pics
Ultima - Black - X8 GTR - 96 pics
Alex Hunter in kit car - 32 pics

If you would like them, he is on john(at)johnmunn.net.
