Spawned from the 'shall we, when will we, where will we' thread:
'Is It Time for a Virginia Water Meet?'
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

...time to get a list going and possibly some ideas for regional convoys if this takes off well driving

> Car park opens at 7:30am on Sundays,
> The car park attendants on the day will be informed of the meet and will have an area reserved, should the general public start turning up early too,
> A section of the car park will be reserved for maximum 180 cars on the day,
> The new press-button-get-ticket-on-entry ticket system (no pay on entry) makes entry quicker, so hopefully removing the chance of congestion back onto the main road,
> There is a new Bacon butty/coffee catering facility on site that normally opens at 10am on sundays. It is likely to be open early for this meet, at 0830, with enough for 150 ish eaters,
> (unwritten PH rule) Please be respectful to other members of the public using the car park,
> (another prerequisite of a PH meet like this) no burn-outs, unnecessary rev etc noise or any other disruptive behaviour,
> Please don't all leave at once,
>> The Car Park Operations Manager understands from the language of this thread and from his experience of previous PH meets at VW, that we are a reponsible, respectful bunch and that should this gathering pass without hitch, we'd be welcome again in the future - not a hard reputation to maintain i think smile
I advised there won't be many of us left by 1100 from previous experience (Nov 2006),
Get there early, so that hopefully we can have a good meet and cause little disruption to the venuewink

It's the day after the longest day, so you've got 3 daylight hours to get there! cool
Any useful advice welcome.

i suggest that the largest engined cars obviously get priority reserved parking ..hehe
Like your thinking .! . . but i still think there maybe some hard-fought hoon battles with everything down to Elises and smaller, on many roads leading to VW! Was in a 4.2L last time (11/06) and lost out around the corners to the Loti . . great on the few short dual carriageway stretches though biggrin Maybe time to shout aloud on the local forums to get the the numbers bumped up! Looking forward to the trip up as well as the sights/sounds there + putting a few of your faces to PH names smile

Is it a must we have to park within the white lines?
guess it depends if you've got an Enzo parked in the slot on 1 side and a Ford GT on the other side :scratchin: smile Hoping for decent numbers so best to stay orderly (only once you've got there...!)

Ah good, theres a petrol station just over the road.
On saturday when i saw so many 114p/ltr rates everywhere else, it was good to fill up there with 111p/ltr juice.
It's a brilliant, picturesque setting on the south side of Windsor Great Park, right on the lakeside. The Wheatsheaf Pub's at one end and across the road there's Piccolino's Italian Restaurant - do a google search. It's within 10mins of the M3 and M25 - easy access. Try and sort a convoy from your areawink

Not sure if I could fit in one space at 2.something wide? Will they give me discount for 2 spaces?
standard space should be 2.4m wide but i know i can't open my door properly to get out in a normal space!... sure there'll be a few double or triple spaces around to try keep 1 either side of you free, if you get there earlywink You'll have to come in with the Elise or Mini crews biggrin

yikes After getting up at 510 for goodwood supercars and before 6 for dash for the coast . . . i'm getting used to it, so 6 it is! (Better do a last check the car park owners aren't thinking of closing it over night)
Was expecting to turn up 830/9ish before the masses get going, but easily persuaded to get there before 8...! sun's up before 5 now - weird sensation driving in daylight with wide open empty roads smile

UPDATE:
Spoke to The Crown Estate (Car Park) Operations Manager, Nicholas Day, earlier who was happy to have his car park in use early on a sunday morning.
He had the following points to make:
> Car park is open at ***7:30am*** on Sundays,
> The car park attendants on the day will be informed of the meet and will be available to assist,
> A section of the car park will be reserved for 180 cars on the day - less than 1/2 of the car park's new capacity (rest to be kept for the public droves expected earlish on a hot summer day!),
> The new press-button-get-ticket-on-entry ticket system (no pay on entry) makes entry quicker, so hopefully removing the chance of congestion back onto the main road,
> There is a new Bacon butty/coffee catering facility on site that normally opens at 10am on sundays. He will put in a request to the catering manager for an earlier opening time of 0830 for the meet (so a decent number of us better be there by then!!). I will call Nicholas soon to confirm which time will be in effect.
> (unwritten PH rule) Please be respectful to other members of the public using the car park,
> (another prerequisite of a PH meet like this) no burn-outs, unnecessary rev etc noise or any other disruptive behaviour,
> Please don't all leave at once,
>> He understood from the language of this thread and from his experience of previous PH meets at VW, that we are a reponsible, respectful bunch and that should this gathering pass without hitch, we'd be welcome again in the future - not a hard reputation to maintain i thinksmile

I advised there won't be many of us left by 1100 from previous experience (Nov 2006), which he was happy about. It shouldn't cause a problem if say 50 are still there then > cars in spaces = money in the ticket machines.

If any of you know of others that want to attend, that haven't added their names, please ask to get the names on the list. 180 spaces are set aside and is our limit. Please only take a single space each, but if you're the first lot there, by all means park a space apart and the laggers can fill in the gaps later.

Thiiiink that's it - will update again on bacon van times et al as soon as.
Looking forward to it!!....just someone sort the weather!! biggrinbiggrin

From Crown Estates w/site:
http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/newscontent/92_inv...

Work on the refurbished car park will be complete by Easter. The car park has been resurfaced and better lighting has been installed. Other improvements include visitor information and signage, benches for walkers at the entrance of the park itself, and improved landscaping to maintain and enhance the natural environment. There will also be a new temporary catering facility at the pedestrian entrance to Virginia Water offering snacks and refreshments to visitors seven days a week.

Nicholas Day, The Royal Landscape’s Operations Manager added: “From 1 April, a new car park charging structure will be introduced at the Virginia Water car park. Visitors will be charged £1 per hour up to a maximum of £5 for the day. Regular users may wish to either park at The Savill Building car park and enjoy 90 minutes free parking or consider purchasing an annual car park pass for £25 which gives access to all four of The Royal Landscape car parks. Revenue from car park charges assists in the maintenance of The Royal Landscape.”

Edited to correct car park opening time

If the last couple of 'all marque' meets are anything to go by then you can expect approx 3 times the number of 'registered' cars to turn up!
(anyone remember the Sunday Service in Feb... hehe)

Will the car park attendants turn people away when we reach 180 cars? scratchchin
if this thread starts to indicate over subscription, measures will be taken to enforce the message that 180 is the limit. If on the day it looks like we're going to be swamped, despite warnings here, then I'm sure the attendants will use their powers to limit access, including shutting the car park entrance. I will be in contact with them as soon as I arrive on the day. I don't want mine and pistonheads' relationship with Crown Estates and the Police (there is likely to be a passive presence on the day) being wrecked because simple advice hasn't been taken. Numbers remaining in the car park at 11am have to be minimalwink

So am i right in saying this is just a sort of breakfast meeting and not a hoon.

Everyone turns up, chats, takes pictures, has breakfast, and leaves ?
Hey K, this thread's about who's gonna be there and what it's about - sort a hoon from your area if there isn't already one - post it on your local forum and stick a link to it on here. the getting there was 1/2 most of the fun last time!

Just out of interest, when does this all start?
Beggining of the thread, car park opens at 7.30am, so anytime from then... from last few VW meets, it seems to get massively busy after 9 ish...
Cheers Stu. Think we're going to get there for about 9.30 (it is Sunday after all!)
Cool, the numbers are building just right. But please beware, as mentioned on previous pages, the car park's open at 730, the brekkie van should be producing at 830 and there's an agreement set that the bulk of our numbers should be out of there by 11am - please don't leave it late (i know it's early!) to turn up, else you may miss the best kit/pilots on show!wink
