Right hands up here who likes fast cars and even faster jet aircraft!!!!

Well if so i'm organising a classic and sports car display at Bruntingthorpe on the 3rd of August to Suppletment an aircraft event on the same day!

The day itself is a Memorial event for Jimmy Dell who was one of the most famous British test pilots after the second world war. He had a huge involvement with the English Electric Lightning as well as others such as the TSR2.

The highlight of the day will be three fast Taxi runs by one of the Lightnings based at Bruntingthorpe (they have two running aircraft but the other is out of service for repairs). Also doing high speed runs will be a Hunter, Buccaneer and Canberra.

Various other cold war era aircraft are on display such as a Victor, other Buccaneers, Sea Vixen, F104 Starfighter, Jet Provost etc.

You should also be able to see the now FLYING Vulcan XH558 in her hanger although this is not a specific part of this event.(entry to the hanger may be extra)

Posted below is a flyer for the event and also a photo I took at a Lightning run a bit earlier in the year.

Entry price is per the flyer, all of the money raised goes towards the upkeep of the aircraft and the construction of the Q Shed which will enable the Lightning Preservation Group to protect the aircraft from the elements.

I've been able to arrange a display area to initially accomodate 50 cars although more space can be found if needed.

Please drop me an e mail if you would like to attend or start a list here. I'll be there displaying my TVR, and going by the response of a couple of members on the VTST forum we'll have Lotus and Marcos as well.

Please contact me for any further details.... here is the flyer...

Oh and here is a photo of what you can expect from the Lightning runs !!

sounds interesting. will the cars be seperate from the normal car park then ?
There will be an area just for the show cars, where exactly i dont know as yet. On arrival any cars being displayed will be directed to a different area by the ATC guys doing the marshalling.

I'm in contact with the people who run the Lightnings and they will be the ones sorting the area for use. I'm hoping to be able to put up a map a bit closer to the date.

The price is the same as everyone else i'm afraid (me included), its a fundraising event for the guys that run the Lightnings which only happens once a year. As you can imagine they are not cheap to run.

To give you an idea of costs its about £2000 to fill one with fuel (wingtanks only, if the bellytank is used thats another £2k!!) and this will last three runs total. After the open day 904 will be empty after the three runs.

Imagine driving to the garage and it costing £2k to fill your car up and it last less than a day!! (hmmm the way Brown is going it it this could soon be a reality hehe

If the guys cover their costs for this event they will be very lucky, hence why i'm trying to get an extra attraction together for them.

In addition to the initial costs upfront.....(approx £10K not including fuel!!) they are desperately trying to raise funds to complete the Q Shed which will provide a dry and secure place to house the pair of Lightnings.... £40k is still needed to finish it off.

Excellent news, the more the merrier...!!

Could you drop me a line nearer the time regarding number of people going, that would be a great help so i can roughly know how many will be attending on the day.

People can just turn up on the day though, i'll be there just after the main gate handing out passes to the sports car parking.

For anybody going can i ask that you try and arrive as close as possible to the gate opening time. I'd like to get as many people parked as i can before the majority of people arrive. I'll put a post up though just before the day with final details.
