Somebody pointed out that it's been far too long since the last one. So, without further ado…

We'll be setting off at 6am from Surrey's favourite dogging grounds (Ockham Common next to J10 on the M25) and heading, in a roundabout sort of way, to the south coast for breakfast, taking in 2-3 hours of lovely twisties across the South Downs. If you've never done a Dash for the Coast, you're in for a treat.

Thats it, tell everyone where I live, they'll all be knocking the bloody door for breakfast now LOL
If the Sailing Club don't come through what are the chances of knocking up 200 odd breakfasts? How big is your drive? hehe

I'm still hoping the Hayling Island Sailing Club will come through for us, but that's certainly an entertaining backup option.

Gruffy, if the sailing club can't help, we've done a few re-runs of this route ending at port solent marina where there is a big weatherspoons and a few other places that do breakfast smile
Looks like a very good option. Thanks.

Is there any special route planned for this or just a fast run down for brekkie?
Yes, there's quite a special route planned. It'll follow the same basic route as my previous Dashes but looks likely to end at the Marina rather than Hayling Island. I'll post the details, maps and sat-nav files around a week before.

any info on the route yet Darren?
Apologies for the delay, I've just touched down after a week motoring around Sicily (recommended).

The Sailing Club aren't able to accommodate us any more. Unfortunately it upset some of their members in the past. So we'll finish up a few miles down the road at the Marina instead. I'll amend the route files tomorrow and post them here for download.

I'll have words! A couple of my neighbours are members. Won't be able to do anything for this visit but I moan at them anyway.
So I had the moan. It seems there is a new guy in the office who may not fully understand stuff yet. My neighbour knows the VP quite well so will mention it to him. Like I say, too late for this run but if you let me know in advance of the next I'll see what I can do smile
Very kind of you Mark. I think it's a great venue to finish these runs so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Gruffy wavey

Please can you confirm meeting time at the start point and what time you are expecting to set off?
Do you have a final itn. file(route)?
Plus are we finishing at The Inn on The Beach, Hayling Island sea front for breakie coffee ?

The weather looking great for the weekend, Cheers Turbofun thumbup
We'll be setting off from Ockham Common at 6am so I'd imagine people will start gathering from 5:30 or so. We're finishing at Port Solent Marina this time, where I'm reliably informed we'll be well catered for in terms of breakfast and coffee.

Edited to fix the link

See you all Sunday, may be a tad late would 6.15/30 be pushing it?
We'll be on our way I'm afraid. You'll be able to catch up by taking a more direct route though.

The route is a twisty one and it's easy to lose your way so I encourage everybody to 'leave no man behind'. If everybody keeps an eye out for the guy behind - just holding back so that they can see where you've turned off - then we'll not lose anybody. Please play nicely through the villages and then use your discretion on the open stretches.

Here's to a sunny, traffic-free Sunday morning!

I've no experience installing a Garmin file but on a TomTom I do it like this:
  1. Connect the TomTom to my computer, where it loads as an external drive
  2. Navigate to the folder named 'itn'
  3. Drop the Dash.itn file into the 'itn' folder
  4. The Dash itinerary is available to select within the TomTom system the next time I power up
As I understand it CSV is the format the Garmin devices use. I don't think it needs to be converted in any way. You just need to get it onto your device. I've had a quick Google for you but I'm obviously using the wrong phrases as I can't find any instructions for installing an itinerary. I'm sure another Garmin user will be along shortly to help out.

It does exactly that, Digby. It distinguishes between waypoints and destinations. If you were to somehow miss a waypoint (or if there was an occasion where I'd accidentally programmed a waypoint on the wrong side of a dual carriageway) you may need to mark a waypoint as visited otherwise the TomTom would want to turn you around to tick that waypoint off.

It's not a problem I've come across before. The file definitely lists the start point as a waypoint rather than a destination. It sounds as though it may revert to a destination automatically. Does it work if you try turning it into a waypoint manually?

Another option might be for you to create a new file from the Google Map, if all else fails.

Excellent. Of course, you may want to programme the start point as a destination if you need to work ou timings to arrive before 6. Just be sure to clear it once you've arrived.

I'm heading down from Tower Bridge if you want some company. At 5 in the morning I probably won't be hanging about.
